Yesterday I wrote about Berlusconi winning in Italy and the politics of everybody has a party and a candidate. Ben Keeler has a good post about the media and their handling of two stories about the same man and the same office.
It was all over the news when pro-Bush ally Silvio Berlusconi of Italy resigned in 2006 - it was widely seen as a rebuke to Bush himself.Not a whole lot of news on his victory today and that his party is reclaiming power. Surprising.
Ben added this bit from the AP which seems to be a PR wing for Obama sometimes which makes this a little surprising.
AP: Berlusconi's party and its allies won strong victories in both houses of parliament despite a strong final sprint by his main rival, Walter Veltroni, who ran a campaign that could have come out of Barack Obama's playbook, with calls to "Vote for change" and supporters armed with "We can!" banners.
Maybe they can't.

America Needs More Options-More Parties?
There is some good news in this as Berlusconi is the best candidate, but the politics of Italy is what caught me eye. Maybe Jesse Ventura and all his buddies that bitch about John McCain can find some satisfaction in this.

Now Dick Celeste is president of the Colorado Springs' Colorado College where humor is dangerous unless vetted by liberals, i.e., professional educators who warn us not to try education at home because their work is done on a closed course by trained professionals.

Communist China Faked Tibetan Torch Attacks
Everybody is crying that the Olympics aren't political and politics should be left out of them. I say, meet and confront tyrants, liars and despots wherever they choose to rear their cowardly heads, especially when they lie to garner sympathy for their murderous ways.This one picture came to symbolize the heartless violence of the Tibetan protesters, thus justifying, in many people's minds, the paramilitary troops that China sent to harass, beat, and brutalize the protesters in other countries -- from France and London to the United States to South America:
Big Lizards has shown that the communist leadership of China has staged this and other photographs and events to make the Tibetans look bad.
China clearly thought this was a win-win for them as the world media flocked to the Olympics showing the world what a great group of guys the communists are. They are not a great group of guys. They are murderous thugs living out Stalin's wet dreams of sadism and world conquest.
If they want to use the Olympics as a front to falsely portray themselves as good people, I say use the Olympics to show that they are common criminals which is the real definition of communism.

Jeremiah Wright Was A Muslim & A Black Nationalist?
I mean, Jeremiah Wright was a Muslim and a black nationalist before he was a Biblical scholar who found that Jesus was actually a black African who was "sick of this sh*t!" This kind of trip is Jules Verne meets Jack Kerouac where Miss Daisy is told to shut up and drive. Or else.

As a result, over the years, Wright became not only Obama's pastor, but his mentor. The title of Obama's recent book, The Audacity of Hope, is based on a sermon by Wright. (It's worth noting, however, that, while Obama's book is a coolheaded appeal for common ground in an age of political polarization, Wright's sermon, "The Audacity to Hope," is a fiery jeremiad about persevering in a world of nuclear arms and racial inequality.) Wright is one of the first people Obama thanked after his Senate victory in 2004, and he recently name-checked Wright in his speech to civil rights leaders in Selma, Alabama.
The church also helped Obama develop politically.
But Obama was a Christian after he was not a Muslim. Was Wright a Christian before he was a Black Nationalist Muslim before he was a Biblical scholar who welcomed Hawaiian Harvard Obama into his new church to become an authentic African-American from the southside of Chicago, ie become part of a family he never had.
I don't know about Wright and Obama, but I got whiplash just trying to keep up with this sell.

Jesse Ventura Is 'None Of The Above'
Jesse Ventura wants the presidential election to be more like a grocery store so people have more choices than just Coke or Pepsi because he is a fiscal conservative, but a social liberal. Well, isn't he special.
To add to his soft drink presidential choices Jesse thinks we should also have a "none of the above" flavor. His nattering on every possible venue shouldn't be considered as publicity for his book. His nattering should be considered moronic. Is it well intentioned? Don't care.

"I oppose the two-party system. All it is is more of the two-party dictatorship," he said. "What I wish we had on the ballot for all our elections is 'none of the above' so you could show you have no confidence in the government.
"It would be amazing just how often 'none of the above' would win ... the only difference I see is that if a Democrat wins (in November) our taxes will go up. That's not saying they spend any more or less than the Republicans but the Republicans put it on a credit card, or the national debt."
An electorate that relies, for the most part, on the main stream media to glean knowledge about two opposing candidates for president will be better off if they have more as well as an out if they don't know or care to make a decision? That's like giving a teenager the choice between cars in the garage and liquor in the cabinet for their drive to the prom. Aren't we in bad enough shape by letting the bureaucrats the run of the auto dealership and the liquor store while controlling the judicial process, using our money the whole time?
You want multiple choice, take a class or move to Italy since that's working oh so well for them. If we are to have weirdo candidates for weirdo voters to vote for and a none of the above choice for those too stupid or too lazy to make a choice, we're in trouble. Wait, we are in trouble, we may have Barr and Paul for starters.
Maybe we can add Daffy Duck and a Teletubby candidate for those that think we need more diversity in government just to round out the Jesse Ventura weirdo slate. Then we can add a Nazi candidate, a Communist, a Green and an Ayrian Nation candidate as well. Come on, this is fun. How about a Zuni Nationalist, a La Raza North American Unity Party candidate, a NAMBLA candidate to spread the love and a vegan Wiccan Nation Common Sense Party candidate for those that don't believe, but want to cover their bases type of voters. Don't forget the Goth Nation! If they win they can repaint the White House black, you know, for change. Real change.
Me, I'd like to continue what has made America strong, one man - one vote and a two party system. For those that can't make a decision or won't make a decision, they can exercise their "none of the above" by not voting for president. Otherwise they can stop screwing with our elections to sell books, get on television or to puff up their own self worth.
Work, support your family, understand the ramifications of your vote and be nice to people. If you want to get involved in party politics to make a change, that is great. If not, stop your bitching and your spewing of foolish ideas.

I Love Old Motels
Their architecture is fun. Not always good, but fun. Route 66 is the road of fame and movies, but the National Road, Route 40, has some really great things built that I remember from my childhood. In Appalachia there was the "Snake Pit" with giant snakes pictured on their signs for miles and miles and the snakes were about 10" in reality.
Near there is the Route 40 Motel. So incredibly ugly/fun architecture that I remember from childhood.
Here in Ohio Route 40 is very cool. As a child and until now with my wife and 
children I have loved going to the Ding Ho Chinese Restaurant on West Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio (Hint: Chicken with vegetables, Won Ton Soup and and egg roll). The family that still owns it are really good and fine people.

Personally I am aghast that I must wait for the announcement, but then I am also aghast that the ever lovely and vivacious Randi is gone.
Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.
Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company. We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America.
We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America’s growth in the future.
Maybe it's not Eugene. Al Franken appears busy these days as well. Bill Maher is bearing his own cross of humor in real time to a Palestinian beat.
You know, maybe they have Lord Haw-Haw in the wings just waiting for the AA microphone. It'd be a step up for sure.

Obama, Clinton Make Fools Of Themselves In Front Of Patraeus And World

“I think it could be fair to say that it might well be irresponsible to continue the policy that has not produced the results that have been promised time and time again, at such tremendous cost to our national security and to the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States military.”
While Hillary debated the meaning of is, Obama called for his type of change in Iraq which strangely enough seems to be the benchmarks for a successful Barack Hussein Obama Administration.
“The problem I have is that if the definition of success is so high, no traces of al Qaeda and no possibility of reconstitution, a highly effective Iraqi government, a democratic multiethnic, multisectarian functioning democracy, no Iranian influence, at least not the kind that we like, then that portends the possibility of us staying for 20 or 30 years,” Obama said.
“If, on the other hand, our criteria is a messy, sloppy status quo, but there’s not huge outbreaks of violence, there’s still corruption but the country is struggling along, but it’s not a threat to its neighbors and it’s not an al Qaeda base, that seems to me an achievable goal within a measured time frame.”
Every nation should strive for a messy, sloppy status quo government. That should get the welfare checks there on time, eh?
It is way beyond belief that these people are running to be the leader of the free world which is the beacon of hope for citizens everywhere, they actually believe people will buy this crap.

The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”
“I didn’t know they would say, ‘We need a white person here,’ ” said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. “I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn’t know it would be so outright.”
Like most "diversity" programs this is all about numbers, but it upsets liberals if race based quotas are "so outright" as to become apparent.
Some see this much ado about nothing except to the "frustrated commentariat."

What Price Sympathy?
Ireland has been at war forever. Vietnam, aka Annan, has been a badminton set for China since before the birth of Christ. Russian hearts only see darkness because the Russian heart only desires darkness.
Africa. Africa is setting itself up to continue to be the sob story for the next many centuries. Is this because they were victims of slavery in Rome, the world and the southern states of America or because they captured and sold thier own brothers as slaves to Europeans to sell to the world that they will continue to slaughter, rape and rob their way into the next millennium?
Vietnam now has graveyards aplenty and a communist government constantly building more out of necessity of its own actions. Ireland has finally found Kennedy money is too dirty even for them. Its sad when a group of filthy little socialists bent on murder feel they are better than a family of rum running whore mongers.
Africa. Darfur. Congo. Rhodesia. Libya. Mau-Mau. The washing of the spears.
As long as I have been alive I have heard of the dark heart of Africa. A heart that loves hate. I have hunted in Kenya and the then country of Rhodesia. I especially treasure my time at Nairobi Ranch with my aunt and friends. Of African friends I only hope for their good.
Other than them, I just can't care anymore. That is bad, but when does a continent's badness become part of one's nightly prayers.
At what point does hope become sadness when those you hope to help refuse help?
Africa is more of a mess than Asia which is almost as much a mess as the Russias which makes Latin America almost appear sensible.
That which has been called the cradle of life appears the crib of death.

Africa. Africa is setting itself up to continue to be the sob story for the next many centuries. Is this because they were victims of slavery in Rome, the world and the southern states of America or because they captured and sold thier own brothers as slaves to Europeans to sell to the world that they will continue to slaughter, rape and rob their way into the next millennium?
Vietnam now has graveyards aplenty and a communist government constantly building more out of necessity of its own actions. Ireland has finally found Kennedy money is too dirty even for them. Its sad when a group of filthy little socialists bent on murder feel they are better than a family of rum running whore mongers.
Africa. Darfur. Congo. Rhodesia. Libya. Mau-Mau. The washing of the spears.
As long as I have been alive I have heard of the dark heart of Africa. A heart that loves hate. I have hunted in Kenya and the then country of Rhodesia. I especially treasure my time at Nairobi Ranch with my aunt and friends. Of African friends I only hope for their good.
Other than them, I just can't care anymore. That is bad, but when does a continent's badness become part of one's nightly prayers.
At what point does hope become sadness when those you hope to help refuse help?

This print is over 100 years old. The engraver was Radclyffe, the original drawing was done by Allom.
History - Dunblane is very important to Stirling family members. I've been told, but not able to verify that many of the timbers in the roof were taken from Stirling of Keir forests when the roof was repaired in the 1890's. The Stirlings of Keir have the North Chapel, with many monuments on the wall.
Although Dunblane was already an ecclesiastical centre in Celtic times, it was David I who created the bishopric cira 1150. The cathedral led a peaceful existence and numbered among its bishops, Clement (1233-58), the builder of the cathedral, and that rare ecclesiastic Robert Leighton (1611-84), (many Stirlings are related to his line) an enlightened conciliator during the religious strife of the 17C. Leighton sorely regretted leaving Dunblane when translated to Glasgow c 1671. Despite 15C alterations, neglect following the Reformation, but no pillaging, and finally several 19th and 20th century restorations, the cathedral is a fine example of 13th century Gothic architecture.
Adjoining the nave on the south side to the left of the entrance is a 12th century tower which belonged to the early Celtic building. The upper storeys and parapet are later additions. Around, to the west end, overlooking the Allan Water where the masterful design of the west front combines a deeply recessed doorway with a tall triplet of lancets and Ruskin's small vesica (oval window) above, all framed by two buttresses.
Interior - This 210 ft-long building passes from nave to choir uninterrupted by transepts or crossing. The initial impressions are of simplicity, height and soaring lines (mostly achieved by the predominance of the pointed arch). Built after the Lady Chapel, the pointed arcades of the eight-bay nave descend onto clustered columns and are surmounted by a double clerestory where window tracery is repeated inside the gallery. This device is copied at the west end, where the great window shows the Tree of Jesse (1906). Below are two sets of the canopied 15C Chisholm stalls deeply and vigorously carved with a wealth of detail. The misericords are of great interest. Like the nave, the wooden barrel-vaulted roof with tinctured armorials has also been restored (19C). Around the pulpit are carved figures of St Blane, who gave his name to the town, King David I, Bishops Clement and Leighton, and John Knox, while those on the screen depict Biblical personages.
The glory of the building is the choir with its great height emphasized by soaring lancers in the south and east sides. Level with the high altar are the early 15C Ochiltree stalls, showing a similar verve of execution. The present stalls and organ case were designed by Robert Lorimer during his 1914 restoration of the choir. Three stone slabs in the floor mark the burial places of the Drummond sisters, allegedly poisoned in 1501 to prevent Margaret, the eldest, from becoming James IV's Queen in preference to Henry VIII's sister, Margaret Tudor. The effigy in the north wall tomb recess is said to be that of Clement, the builder bishop. The oldest part, the Lady Chapel opening off the north side of the choir, has ribbed vaulting with carved bosses. The memorial windows, panelling and flooring are all 20C.

But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.

Selfish Charity For Political Gain
Nothing says giving like giving to yourself, getting a tax break for it and being able to tout your 'caring' in dollar amounts to amaze your friends, neighbors and voters.

During that time, the Clintons paid $33.8 million in federal taxes and claimed deductions for $10.2 million in charitable contributions. The contributions went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy.
Might Bill and Hill be a tad narcissistic?
Speaking to a statewide convention of North Dakota Democrats in Grand Forks on Friday, Mrs. Clinton criticized the Bush administration’s tax cuts, which she said favored the rich, then referred to the tax data she and her husband released earlier in the day.
“Now don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against rich people,” she said. “As a matter of fact, my husband, much to my surprise and his, has made a lot of money since he left the White House, by doing what he loves doing most — talking to people. But we didn’t ask for George Bush’s tax cuts. We didn’t want them, and we didn’t need them.”
Maybe if you and little Billy gave your tax cut to a real charity or spent it on goods and services you'd be able to grasp the concept that maybe you don't need your tax cut, but there are a lot of small business and individuals that do and want you to get them, even against your will.
My, oh my, being a couple who much to their surprise have made a lot of money makes it so tiresome to deal with the little people and their wearisome demands. Jeeves, bring me an ashtray or a lamp, I feel the need to speak with William.

Boutique Gas In Iraq?
Our Empress, Nana Pelosi, has duly warned General Patraeus "not to put a shine" on the situation in Iraq and all of her children have duly noted that in their little red books. Now though comes the incredibly worrisome news that Iraqis may be paying less for the refined crude their houses are built on top of. The horrors!
Deeper in Nana's threat was this gem of green economic realism:
"The stretch and strain on our military is like never before," said Skelton. "I am terribly worried about this."
Underscoring the Democrats’ economic points, Pelosi asked why the U.S. military in Iraq and Americans back home are paying more for gasoline than the Iraqis are.
“Our troops in Iraq are paying about $3.25 a gallon for gas in Iraq, comparable to what we pay here, while the Iraqis are paying $1.36 a gallon,” Pelosi said. “This is a raw deal for the American taxpayer.”
While this fact is unacceptable there is a solution. Boutique fuels. I say most of Baghdad must have sweet smelling gas fumes that would never think of polluting a single terrorist while areas in which Sadr has his forces the gas fumes must pollute and smell like Sadr's left hand. It's kind of like the difference between Cleveland and Berkeley only smaller.
Other cities in Iraq can summon up their best smarm and demand sweeter fuel in different mixtures that will make their babies stronger (because it is really all about the children unless they become loggers in which case the Hell with them) and saving Mother Earth from capitalist running dog pig Republicans.

This from John Legend, who is a great musician, but also a man who would probably be disgusted by stereotypes, like so many Democrats say themselves. Why do they constantly stereotype people and groups? Whites are racist, but blacks are not capable of being racist. Republicans are all rich except those without money, but they are dupes for the rich. Democrats are not dupes, but thoughtful individuals who just happen to have the same thoughts as their leaders even though some of them have never thought about what they are agreeing about.

Stabenow's husband caught in Troy prostitution sting, police report says
The co-founder and former CEO of the liberal-progressive Democracy Radio and husband of U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow was caught in February by a Troy police sting aimed at catching prostitutes, according to a police report.
Thomas L. Athans was stopped Feb. 26 by undercover officers investigating a possible prostitution ring in a room at the Residence Inn near Big Beaver and Interstate 75. Athans paid a 20-year-old prostitute $150 for sex in a Troy hotel but was not arrested, according to police reports obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by The Detroit News. The police report said officers observed Athans enter a room under surveillance and leave 15 minutes later. Detectives followed and stopped Athans' silver 2002 Cadillac DeVille on Interstate 75 near Square Lake Road.

Saddam's 'useful idiot' Owes Boehner $1 Million

A federal judge says House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, can collect more than $1 million in his lawsuit against Democratic Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington state.
The decision was issued in a decade-long dispute over an illegally taped telephone call. In the 1996 call, Republican leaders discussed an ethics case against then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga. A Florida couple recorded the cell phone call on a radio scanner and McDermott leaked the tape to two newspapers.
Boehner sued and a federal court found that McDermott had no right to release the calls. The Supreme Court decided in December not to revisit the case.
McDermott called the court fight with Boehner “a long and costly battle,” but said the million-dollar judgment was “a small price to pay in defense of so fundamental a principle, and freedom, as the First Amendment.”
Because of the protracted legal challenge, “the First Amendment is stronger today, and shielded by new case law that will buttress its capacity to protect the publication of truthful information on matters of public importance long into the future,” McDermott said in a statement Tuesday. “ Knowing this, I am proud of my role in defense of the First Amendment.”
Yes, McDermott must be proud in his role as defender of the First Amendment after he so rigorously defended his boss, Saddam's, right to say he was going to wage the Mother of All Battles against the evil United States of America. Or maybe he was just defending his right to speak as a useful idiot of Saddam.

It has been a long time since I e-mailed you.Anyway, my wife and I have been living in the UK since early 2000 and have been experiencing the US political scene from a distance since then. I watched the anti-Obama videos you linked today with some interest. I have always been a conservative so I would not vote for the Democractic nominee in any event, but I haven't been an enthusiastic McCain guy. He seemed too much like Bob Dole the Sequel to me. He came to London and I could have met him, but I couldn't be bothered at the time even though I deeply respect the sacrifices he made during his captivity.
Now I have watched Obama's commercial to "slow down" the development of weapon's programmes and more importantly saw the "Man in the Arena" ad linked on YouTube. I have to say that now I am a convert. I am not like the fake Republicans that the NY Times seems to find that support whatever liberal agenda the Times is pushing at the moment. There is a lot I would not like about a McCain Presidency. On the other hand, I love my country and, notwithstanding what Mickey Kaus thinks about having a president with dark skin somehow deterring a potential terrorist, it does us no good if Obama throws away our real defences. I can never see Obama saying or even thinking that "Do not flinch. Stand Up. We're Americans and we will never surrender. They will." That is the most important issue for me. It must trump all others.
I must say that now I will have to donate to the McCain campaign. I was going to sit this election out (except for voting), but now I see I need to do everything I can to help. I am a father. How could I not do as much as I can to make the world safe for my little girl? Anything less is negligent.
That one commercial made me a reluctant convert to the McCain campaign.
McCain has to hope that this will happen a lot between now and November.

They may be right, but who knows and fewer are caring every day because "scientific" activists have been lying to us for decades. To make a name or make a fortune "scientists" have released information that is premature, incomplete or an outright lie concerning Alar, DDT, global warming, secondhand smoke, etc., and now cell phones.
Would I like to believe them, yes. Will I, no because science has been sullied by "scientists" and an out of control and overweight government attempting to justify the billions of dollars they steal from us each year by backing wild claims with little or no factual support.
Science and the NIH, for example, have become part of the health problem.

Well, if 50% of the state population works for some form of government and 1 in 6 are on food stamps that means approximately 34% have jobs that are worth having. Marine LCpl. Tatum has had all charges dropped for his actions in Haditha, but I am sure Jack Murtha is at a fund raiser or is face down in a pork trough and hasn't heard. Otherwise he would publicly apologize right after getting off the phone from apologizing personally to each of the Marines. Just remember, he loves the troops just like Harry and Nancy do which is why Murtha publicly convicted them before they were tried.
None of the Marines will be charged with "cold blooded murder." Can Murtha be charged with character murder? How will Murtha help these men get their lives back? To paraphrase Secretary of Labor Ray Donovan, "What office do they go to get their reputation back?"
