During the first half of the 1930s, various Soviet publications questioned the known historical facts regarding the age of the Cathedral. The publications stressed that the medieval building had undergone major reconstructions and that little of the original Byzantine-style cathedral was preserved. This wave of questioning led to the demolition of the monastery and its replacement with a new administrative centre for the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (previously located in the city of Kharkiv). Before its demolition (June 8–July 9, 1934), the structure was carefully studied by T.M. Movchanivskyi and K. Honcharev from the recently purged and re-organized Institute of Material Culture of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. On the basis of their survey, the cathedral was declared to belong primarily to the Ukrainian Baroque style, rather than to the twelfth century as was previously thought, and thus did not merit preservation due to its lack of historical and artistic value. This conclusion backed up the Soviet authorities' plans to demolish the entire monastery. Local historians, archaeologists, and architects agreed to the monastery's demolition, although reluctantly. Only one professor, Mykola Makarenko, refused to sign the demolition act; he later died in a Soviet prison.

On June 26, 1934, work began on the removal of the twelfth century Byzantine mosaics. It was conducted by the Mosaic Section of the Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts. Specialists were forced to work in haste on account of the impending demolition and were thus unable to complete the entire project. Despite the care and attention shown during the removal of the mosaics from the cathedral's walls, the relocated mosaics cannot be relied upon as being absolutely authentic.

The remaining mosaics, covering an area of 45 square metres (485 sq ft), were partitioned between the State Hermitage Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the State Russian Museum. The other remaining mosaics were installed on the second floor of the Saint Sophia Cathedral, where they were not on display for tourists. Those items that remained in Kiev were seized by the Nazis during World War II and taken to Germany. After the war ended, they fell into American hands and were later returned to Moscow.

During the spring of 1935, the golden domes of the monastery were pulled down. The cathedral's silver royal gates, Mazepa's reliquary (weighing two poods of silver) and other valuables were sold abroad or simply destroyed. Master Hryhoryi's five-tier iconostasis was removed (and later destroyed) from the cathedral as well. St. Barbara's relics were transferred to the Church of the Tithes and upon that church's demolition, to the St Volodymyr's Cathedral in 1961.

During the spring-summer period of 1936, the shell of the cathedral and belltower were blown up with dynamite. The monastery's Economic Gate (Ekonomichna Brama) and the monastic walls were also destroyed. After the demolition, a thorough search for valuables was carried out by the NKVD on the site.

The only building completed on the former monastery grounds before World War II currently houses the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The construction of the second building ("the capital center"), planned to be built on the site where the Cathedral had once stood, was delayed in the spring of 1938 as the authorities were not satisfied with the submitted design. This building failed to materialize. Some time after demolition, the site where the former cathedral used to be located was transformed into a sport complex, including tennis and volleyball courts. The Refectory (Trapezna) of St. John the Divine was used for changing rooms.

UPDATE: What has always amazed me is that liberals, progressives, socialists and communists always feel the need to destroy Christianity to support their obviously weak stance against faith. It really bothers them that Jesus does live today, especially as they try to point out He doesn't.

Literally, yesterday, I watched a drug addict change his life at the funeral of his mother. His mother, who was a close friend of mine who became an addict, spoke the truth to him about her life, her being born again and her defeat of the evils in her life, changed her life. Her son did the same yesterday.

I am not a "born again", but I do believe. I want to thank God for that I witnessed. Not to make light, but maybe my mother beat the love of God into me early. Whatever, I was blessed to see the changing of a young man and to be part of it.

I will say it has been a few years since I attended a funeral that was also a revival. Kinda rocked me, but in a good way

Hillary Thinks After 45-60 Million Killed China Is Plum Tuckered Out On Repression

Communist China has made murder an art form. Scholars estimate that the communist Chinese have killed between 45 and 60 million human being to attain the harmony that leftists here in America pine for. I think if teachers here read of the horrible deaths of their brother and sister comrades in China as they were forced out of the classroom and into manual jobs in rural areas they may have second thoughts about paying a tad more into their fund for health care.

Hillary, as astute as ever, has proclaimed that China's repression, after 62 years, is no longer "sustainable" as if repression is akin to energy or economic growth.

Hillary might want to think about Chinese dissidents in hiding, in jails or already dead. Maybe she can have a chat with those on the island of Taiwan or in Vietnam, Mongolia, Tibet or other "friends" that China has helped. As of now we can only hope Hillary's crystal ball is clear and in proper working order. Otherwise it could be tragic if that repression has a longer shelf life than she thinks.

Communism Kills

Many years ago I had produced for a foundation with which I worked a bumper sticker that stated simply, "Communism Kills." Many thought it too blunt. I didn't and don't. When a government, especially hero worshipping communists, obtain that much power they kill. They kill in the millions, actually in the tens of millions. Those that are killed get the better end of the stick, so to speak, because at least they're out from under the iron boot of government.

Whenever my son started acting up we'd hear from him that it wasn't him and that actually it was his invisible evil twin. Obama is acting like the invisible evil twin of our founders.

The path the modern, MoveOn-controlled Democrat Party is on today was presciently described by Stuart Chase in 1942. He wrote that the agenda of the Fabian Socialists -- who had launched a counter-revolution against America's founding -- was to create an authoritarian and completely centralized government apparatus. The tenets of the Fabian Socialists were codified as follows:

• Strong, centralized government
• Government-controlled banking, credit and securities exchange (like Dodd-Frank, etc.)
• Government control over employment (like the "Employee Free Choice Act" and NLRB efforts to increase unionization of the workplace)
• Unemployment insurance, old age pensions (like 99-week unemployment benefits, Social Security, easy access to welfare)
• Universal medical care, food and housing programs (like Obamacare, food stamps, HUD)
• Access to unlimited government borrowing (like massive deficits)
• A managed monetary system (like an opaque Federal Reserve)
• Government control over foreign trade (like China tariffs)
• Government control over natural energy sources, transportation and agricultural production (like drilling moratoriums, the EPA's regime of "Cap-and-Trade")
• Government regulation of labor (like the Wagner Act, monopolistic power of trade unions, et. al.)
• and Heavy progressive taxation (like our current tax code, the most "progressive" of all Western countries).

This is the future Obama and allies want for America. Never mind that America was originally designed to never have any of this as part of our governance because it represents everything they were fleeing from and detested in too powerful and too large (they go hand in hand) government. Present day Americans also do not want any of this even though a few losers are passing around biased and poorly done polling that attempts to show Americans want more progressive (aka socialists) government.

Has Been Laden Dead On May Day, A Day That Should Be In Infamy

Communism and terrorism aren't just like each other. They are the same. Both are killers not just of bodies, but of spirits, hopes and dreams. It is fitting that bin laden was killed on May Day.

We know that communism has slaughtered at least 80 - 100 million people, but we'll probably never know the full number, at least as long as boils on the body politic such as China, Cuba and fat man Chavez are still around. They tend to hide their crimes.

At least communists have a day office. Usually a palatial palace to show equality with the working man, but terrorists have an office called cowardice that lurks in back alleys and darkened basements. I've been told that the more children and women around the more likely there are also terrorists nearby because they like to have shields to protect themselves.

May Day was taken over by the communist movement to celebrate their coming to power. They became so arrogant that they didn't really hide the mass murder needed to make all men equal. They saw it as an incentive to join the party. So it is with terrorists. Sharia law, also is molded to inflict terror induced compliance which Islamofascists see as a feature, not a bug in their system.

With bin laden dead the war is not over, but will now kick into another plane of fighting. His supporters will want to show their anger and their anger brings much more frothing of the mouth which always means more murder. They think murder brings a smile to their god who, if he is a god, must be weeping with shame that his followers wantonly murder, rape and destroy in his name.

I say we make May Day a celebration of the defeat of terror and despots the world over. Unfortunately, bin laden's body was thrown in the ocean instead of being placed on a pike at ground zero, but his name is now synonymous with hatred, cowardice and murder. Just like his communist brothers and sisters. Cowards all.

The Perfect Storm Our Fearless Leaders Have Created For US

The perfect storm has been building for decades as government grows larger, more powerful and less effective, as unions invade our public sector, as private enterprise is ridiculed and Americans who cherish life and liberty turned their eyes in hopes it would all go away. Each year workers expected more and more for less and less. Each year students have been taught how evil our country is. Each year the government supports failure in economic terms that are staggering. Each year the news we receive is less and less tethered to reality. Each year government found another entitlement. Each year government spent more and more. Each year government told us it was going to be fine because they were here to protect every facet of America. Each year, they all lied and took and never gave back. Yes, a perfect storm has been created.

So, Obama has single handedly created our recovery. Rejoice all ye blind supporters and economists, but I repeat myself. Our fearless reporters, at least those that can tear themselves away from manning the bollocks, will speak of the great unknown we are emerging from into the glowing unknown we are entering and how wonderful it all will be.

Union members are in for a rough row. They will win a few court battles to regain some turf and they may win some state referendums to overturn legislation that actually puts them more on par with the private sector and, gasp, holds them accountable. All the tens, possible hundreds, of millions they will spend will further weaken them and hasten their demise because unions represent all that has become wrong in our economy. They are the tip of the storm. The perfect storm.

Tepid, at best, job growth is with no income increase, in fact, lowered income for those not working for government and unions which are becoming the same thing. AFSCME alone has 3,500 local unions spread across 46 states that gave $87.5 million split between Democrats and Republicans 98:1 respectively. They all got raises above the national norm and have almost ironclad job protection. Not so amongst workers in the private sector.

Job growth is trying to occur in an economy that is deeply in debt with more debt, and the incredible interest on that debt, growing each day. That means our workers are working for China and other countries that own our debt and to exacerbate the problem, 40 cents of every dollar spent by the federal government is borrowed. Probably from China. Our enemy. China, a country that wants our wealth, but will not abide our liberty and freedom because a slave master doesn't like those things. Our new master will also dictate jobs, growth or no growth, and how much salaries will be allowed.

Also part of our perfect storm is our future. All the protected teachers and professors are training their students, not for entrepreneurship, manufacturing, invention and other basic necessities of our economy, but for  standing in line for jobs that only illegal immigrants will fill.

Yes, every Pierpont Watson Willowpoint III will look forward to utilizing that degree for standing in line for a deep frying position that he will lose out for by someone named Pablo. I wonder if Pierpont's living trust will have clauses pertaining to employment as a necessity for Pierpont's annual withdrawal from the trust? I do hope his worsted wool doesn't retain the malodor of Harry Reid's great unwashed.

There are so many factors in a perfect storm. These are but a few that undermine our hopes and dreams. Others, such as liberals in congress that spout studies made up by union protected workers in an attempt to stop any cuts to their pet reelection programs such as bridges to nowhere. And there are others that actually are beginning to publicly say that they want to undermine our way of life by undermining our economy with socialism.



It is a perfect storm of historic stupidity and it may be the ruin of us all.

I took approx. 44 years to build the cathedral which was a memorial to the Russian dead of 1812. When completed in 1883 it was the largest structure in Moscow.

In 1931 Joseph Stalin, the communist dictator, had the cathedral blown up because he said it was the breeding ground of "the narcotic" (religion).

Stalin wanted to replace this breeding ground with the absolutely ridiculous Palace of the Soviets. There was to be a 6,000 ton statue of Stalin atop the palace that, if finished, would have been taller than the Empire State Building.

Nikita Kruschev decided the empty space was an eyesore, much like our government produced with Urban Renewal, and decided to build a huge series of very large swimming pools. As with much centralized government planning and the mindset that goes with it, the design and construction was very poor and the pools leaked, sometimes they leaked in reverse allowing dirty water from the Moskva River to dirty the waters of the largest pool in the world.

By 1995, President Reagan had brought the Soviet Union to its knees and as freedom and religion again flourished in Russia construction on a new cathedral, to be identical to the original, began. It was completed in 2000.

Yet, the link to rhetoric and violence doesn't end with the Palin and her tea party. It extends to the political leadership of Arizona and the Republican Party, who have fomented laws and policies that logically lead to violence. Starting with the anti-immigrant SB 1070 and banning ethnic studies, leaders like Governor Jan Brewer, and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have to take as much responsibility for this violence as Palin and her cohorts. All their condolences ring hollow because of their callous inflammatory rhetoric and romanticization of guns and "Second Amendment remedies". Arizona is burning. It is Ground Zero for this extreme far-right, and their corporate, multi-billionaire sponsors. In the words of Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik in responding to political mood leading to the shooting shooting, "Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

They should be so proud! They should be members if they already aren't because they deserve each other. Clowns. Losers.

But he acknowledged that Republicans are enjoying an advantage heading toward the Nov. 2 election that will determine whether Democrats retain control of Congress.

"There may be an enthusiasm gap, but we're not going to know until we have an election," Bork said. "A lot of the noise from the extreme right-wing stuff, it's been well orchestrated by big money. But it's not as bad as they're making it out."

There are some that "support" the progressive agenda? Of course there are. There are also those that still support communism. Death and depredation just don't deter some people.

Ernesto Che Guevara is one of the false gods of socialist/communist world history. That he was a coward and a fraud is well known. Through friends of my parents, exiled Cubans, we heard of the "good" work that Fidel Castro and his band of losers had done in Cuba. Quite frankly, I didn't know whether to believe the stories that I heard as a young boy. When I entered college I had the great fortune to have an American History professor who recommended many other books on various subjects. Knowing the "intellectual" love affair many students were having with the image of Che one of the books he suggested concerned the Cuban Revolution. The stories and events lined up with what I had been told as a youth.

The apotheosis of Ernesto Che Guevara is arguably the biggest historical scam of the 20th century. Aided and abetted by a gaggle of journalists and academics, this swaggering, narcissistic opportunist, devoid of genuine accomplishments, and so utterly incompetent at practically everything he set his hand to that Fidel Castro finally had to find a way to get rid of him, was magically transformed into a courageous and inspiring warrior, a Christ-like revolutionary hero. Humberto Fontova’s superb demythologization, Exposing the Real Che Guevara and the Useful Idiots Who Idolize Him, is a large bucket of cold water thrown into the rapturous faces of Guevara’s unthinking admirers.

As a young girl my daughter wanted a Che poster to be like her friends. I told her that she could have one if she spent 30 minutes with me going over Che's real history. Ten minutes into the conversation she told me that didn't want the poster or one of anyone like Che.
 
The following year while visiting an art gallery we all had the pleasure to see and discuss Charles Willson Peale's portrait "George Washington at Princeton, 1779". She asked for and got that poster.
 

Harvard Schmarvard Lies And Spies

While attending Ohio State Medical School my father was given the suggestion that he should attend Harvard Med so as to be challenged more. After a term at Harvard he appeared back at OSMS and announced that if he wanted to fix noses and "asses" he would have originally gone to Harvard. He was welcomed back with open arms and graduated at the top of his class. He thought Harvard a tick off by half. When he reattached fingers and such, in the 1960's, his patients thought him spot on.

That leaves … Harvard. The nation’s premier Ivy League U.S. president mass-production facility has yet to yank the degree it bestowed on Russky spy Andrey Bezrukov, who was presenting as “Donald H. Heathfield,” a dead Canadian, when handed his sheepskin in 2000.

Years ago as a young man and before my father died, he made me promise that I would not attend Harvard. I promised. I never had the heart to admit later, at the appropriate age, that Harvard had less use for me than I for it. Yale and Princeton wanted me. I had other ideas. I believe it was a win-win-win-win for all.
