Religion Saving Society, Poor Atheists Not

Community based on tradition has always been the foundation of successful societies. Religion has been the rock upon the which the common weal succeeds. In recent decades this has been under attack, very successfully, and now we find ourselves in the midst of a society that props up mediocrity and funds total failure and that society points to their result as the need to do more of it. Failure has become a government program and it will grow as the failure of government at all levels grows.

Now we find that it is not the traditionalists that are ignorant, but those that say they are.

In fact, some recent research reveals, it is almost the other way round.  According to the American Sociological Association, the uneducated and the poor (often of course the same people) are dropping God like a hot brick; the ‘bitter clingers’ are increasingly better educated and more affluent than the unchurched.

Second, the increasing disconnect between many poor and poorly educated Americans and the values and ideas that make for success in this society is in part a consequence of efforts by well meaning liberals to keep religion out of schools.  By what we teach and what we don’t teach, what we talk about and where the silences are, we convey clear messages to young children.  We have been broadcasting a clear message to two generations of young people that religion doesn’t matter.

The greatest victims of this fraud and deceit are, as usual, the most vulnerable and needy among us.

The "reforms" within historical churches (Episcopal comes to my mind) have done great damage to society as they have run away from their charge to help those least able to help themselves within their communities and lobbied for the government to do so on their behalf codifying an atheist hand-out society of poor and illiterate people.

I took approx. 44 years to build the cathedral which was a memorial to the Russian dead of 1812. When completed in 1883 it was the largest structure in Moscow.

In 1931 Joseph Stalin, the communist dictator, had the cathedral blown up because he said it was the breeding ground of "the narcotic" (religion).

Stalin wanted to replace this breeding ground with the absolutely ridiculous Palace of the Soviets. There was to be a 6,000 ton statue of Stalin atop the palace that, if finished, would have been taller than the Empire State Building.

Nikita Kruschev decided the empty space was an eyesore, much like our government produced with Urban Renewal, and decided to build a huge series of very large swimming pools. As with much centralized government planning and the mindset that goes with it, the design and construction was very poor and the pools leaked, sometimes they leaked in reverse allowing dirty water from the Moskva River to dirty the waters of the largest pool in the world.

By 1995, President Reagan had brought the Soviet Union to its knees and as freedom and religion again flourished in Russia construction on a new cathedral, to be identical to the original, began. It was completed in 2000.

'Vandals have hacked at the heart of Christianity': 2,000-year-old Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury is cut down

I feel sad for those that are profoundly affected by this. People such as me.

I feel more sad for the empty person or people that did this.

Christian legend dictates that Jesus's great uncle, Joseph of Arimathea, came to Britain after the crucifixion 2,000 years ago bearing the Holy Grail - the cup used by Christ at the Last Supper.

He visited Glastonbury and thrust his staff into Wearyall Hill, just below the Tor, planting a seed for the original thorn tree.

Roundheads felled the tree during the English Civil War, when forces led by Oliver Cromwell (pictured) waged a vicious battle against the Crown.

However, locals salvaged the roots of the original tree, hiding it in secret locations around Glastonbury.

It was then replanted on the hill in 1951. Other cuttings were also grown and placed around the town - including its famous Glastonbury Abbey.

Experts had verified that the tree - known as the Crategus Monogyna Bi Flora - originated from the Middle East.

A sprig of holy thorns was taken from the Thorn tree by Glastonbury's St Johns Church on Wednesday and sent to the Queen.

The 100-year-old tradition will see the thorns sit on Her Majesty's dinner table on Christmas Day

I find it ironic that modern day vandals think they might justify an act such as this. An older vandal, Oliver Cromwell, believed he had reason too. I have a reason to find this interesting on many levels.

Many of my ancestors were thrown from England, exiled, by Cromwell and his Roundheads. Many lost all they owned and were sent to Barbados. From there they came to the colonies and family remaining in England that owned large parts of the Virginia Company fought a losing battle against Cromwell and other companies and lost their charter and much of their fortune.

They had the last laugh though as they prospered both financially and as individuals here in America. Cromwell's life became a caricature as he wore purple robes with ermine linings emulating those he had fought, killed and executed. After death things got worse for Ollie.

There has long been a family story about an ancestor who traveled to England in January of 1661 for business and witnessed Cromwell's body disinterred and symbolically executed. Many, including me, have a birthday of January 30 which is the anniversary of his symbolic execution.

I pray the tree is born anew.
