Feds arrest 58 undocumented workers in raids on 8 eateries
The raids at eight Casa Fiesta restaurants is part of larger workplace enforcement strategy that infuriates immigrant advocates, who say it brings down the hammer on hapless workers.
"These people are not criminals," said David Leopold, a Cleveland immigration lawyer. "The worst thing you can say about them is they came here to feed their families."
Leopold is to testify before a congressional subcommittee in Washington today on the need for comprehensive immigration reform. In lieu of that reform, he said, the government is using police actions to support a broken immigration system.
Immigration authorities say they are enforcing the law as best they can, in part, by targeting businesses that purposely hire undocumented workers.
"This was just a step," said Brian M. Moskowitz, the special agent in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of Investigations in Detroit. "This is part of a criminal investigation of a company that is violating U.S. law."
I am very pro-business and, yes, I have heard from employers here in Ohio, spoken to small town business owners and farmers in Nebraska, Iowa and other places, but if they are purposely hiring illegal aliens, they are in the wrong. Hire all the lawyers possible, but they won't change that fact.

The media, still licking its wounds over victory in Iraq, has set out their Plan B for Afghanistan. Plan B is the same used in Iraq which is doom and gloom with every day, ignoring good days and hoping the whole thing goes to Hell in a hand basket so they can trash Republicans before the election in November. If any one of these losers believed in God you could count on the fact that they'd be praying for a major problem just to get one more shot at President Bush.
In their mind if Bush wins in Iraq and Afghanistan they will lose in the "name the worst president" sweepstakes. In fact they'll look the losers they are. That ain't pretty. They is ugly anyway and with loser stamped on their forehead they'll be uglier than a 2:oo AM last call loner standing there with an empty glass and no ride home.
So, onto perpetuating defeat in Afghanistan, the war the media said we should focus on to get us out of Iraq which they said we were losing. Now we're winning in Iraq, OMG, we're LOSING in Afghanistan! Just makes one pine for the simple days of "I'd Rather be stupid, thank you." Dan was the poster boy for K.I.S.S. and well suited to it.

In his quest to be all things to all people, Barry Lyndon Obamally, entertained the press in London with another day of political frivolity and ends up stumbling upon a political truth. You can't be all things, all the time, on all subjects to all the people.

Now Students Starving In America
Last week we were told that the middle class couldn't afford meat. Now students are starving. Have we no shame?

"Before, when I lived in the dorms, I was on the meal plan," the 20-year-old said. "Now that I'm in the apartment, I have to pay for food, and I have to pay my cell phone bill. I don't make enough to pay for both."

The story about John Edwards and Rielle Hunter is nothing, but the age old story of people gone wrong. The story of how all the major news organizations spiked the story in apparent collusion is quite another.
Just as Watergate would have been nothing, but a second-rate burglary except for the cover up by the Nixon Administration, the real 'love child' story is beyond the story. People in positions of power and trust discussed what they would do in unison to mislead the public about a story for reasons they wish to keep secret, just as they have colluded in their coverage of our presidential election and the candidates.

Obama, Faux Citizen Of The World
Obama tries so hard to say what he thinks will please the congregation thus raise his halo that he just falls flat after the service and the communion wine has worn off.
Problems here at home brought by the Pelosi-Reid "government" and Obama is kissing up in foreign lands. Environmentally inflated gas killing budgets and Obama is in the theatre of the absurd acting Jewish at the Wailing Wall. Banks are in trouble and he's trying to play commander in chief by insulting professional soldiers with his tin ear to the facts on the ground. This isn't the way to bolster his foreign policy resume. He hasn't got one and it shows.

Barack Obama offered eloquent praise for this country, but the contrast is clear. John McCain has dedicated his life to serving, improving and protecting America. Barack Obama spent an afternoon talking about it.
I'm betting on the tortoise. The hare is a tad too skittish because this is one race track he can't handle.

While Obama's Berlin visit has caused a stir, hardly anyone is interested in his trip to Paris on Friday. There are hardly any French media reports on the eve of his visit. Obama Doen't Know Shite About Sunnis, Iraq, Afghanistan Nor Islam

Presidential Candidate Obama’s statements in and about Iraq in the past 24 hours have been nothing less than shameless and disgraceful. While we strive to avoid political discussion at ThreatsWatch, criticism of his words transcends rank political partisanship if for no other reason than his claims are simply and flatly untrue, made in a war zone, during a time of war and while running to become the Commander in Chief of US Military Forces. This simply cannot stand unchallenged.
Not only does Senator Obama apparently think the Anbar Awakening and the Shi’a militia stand-downs that have occurred are somehow separate developments from the surge, which is a remarkable feat of logic in and of itself, but he is implying that they are part and parcel indigenous to what his ‘plan’ for ‘political progress’ would have afforded.

The Iraqis have done what they have done for themselves in spite of the likes of Obama, Schumer, Pelosi and all the rest. What’s more, now that The Surge has accomplished much of what it set out to do to help the Iraqis - again in spite of Obama, Schumer, Pelosi and the rest - a presidential candidate who opposed the surge, would still oppose The Surge and had absolutely no clue about the Anbar Salvation Council when it was pleading and begging for US support (since at least September of 2006) wants to champion their success as somehow his brainchild and a sign of the political development he envisioned? Obama is obviously unqualified to be a US Senator and he is criminally inadequate to be President of the United States of America. That he has followed the orders of and is supported by Pelosi and Schumer speaks volumes about them and all of those in their wing of the party.
To shame our military, take away their will to fight during war and condemn 50+ million people in Iraq and Afghanistan is more than shameful. It shames the United States of America.
Pelosi, Schumer and Obama almost succeeded in becoming the Pol Pot of the Middle East.

Obama sells rags like nothing they've seen since JFK. And the better the circulation, both real, unreal and implied, the better the revenue stream from sellers of what-nots.
Policies don't matter, even if the media agrees, honesty doesn't matter, the media could care less, and experience doesn't mean a whit, the media wants revenue in light of their sinking fortunes. Business is business, but hypocrisy, lying and false premise, as witnessed daily in the media is not business. It is a lie, but if Obama can sell they'll use him all they can.

Gee, I wonder who the old gray woman will endorse for president. I'm thinking they will endorse Barack Iraq Obama because of their shared vision of evil America losing in Iraq. Both seem so disappointed the electorate stubbornly refused to buy into their particular form of snooty elitism in the 2000 & 2004 presidential elections. Like most liberals, both think they're smarter, more politically savvy and better than voters. Both don't seem to grasp that liberalism has failed just like its big brothers, socialism and communism. All three are reality impaired.

As first reported by The Drudge Report, Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, submitted an opinion piece to the New York Times last week and the paper has rejected it.
A week earlier, the paper published an op-ed by Obama, about the Democrat's plans for troop draw-down in Iraq. A few days later, the McCain campaign submitted a column rebutting the Obama piece.
According to McCain campaign staffers, the Times rejected the McCain piece and asked for a rewrite to respond directly to some of the claims in the Obama piece, and include an outline of the Republican's timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq and conditions for withdrawal.
New York Times oped editorial page editor David Shipley is probably chuckling in his iced Pinot Gregio at his little put down of a mere Republican hero to help the Hawaiian hero of Harvard. The NYTs and Shipley aren't completely heartless though, they've offered McCain time to change his Iraq policy and resubmit his editorial.
"I'd be very eager to publish the Senator on the oped page. However I'm not going to be able to accept this piece as currently written," Shipley writes, according to a copy of the message provided to ABC News.
"It would be terrific to have an article from Sen. McCain that mirrors Sen. Obama's piece. To that end, the article would have to articulate, in concrete terms how Sen. McCain defines victory in Iraq. It would also have to lay out a clear plan for achieving victory -- with troop levels, timetables and measures for compelling the Iraqis to cooperate."
The McCain campaign has refused to rewrite the piece, saying that the Times' suggestions are tantamount to insisting that he change his position in order to get his opinions published. McCain has refused throughout the campaign to detail any specifics regarding timetable for troop withdrawal in Iraq.
If I were McCain I wouldn't waste the time and effort on assisting a sinking ship obtain more readership. The NYTs won't give McCain a fair shake, let alone endorse him, and NYC won't vote for McCain, not even republicans like Billion Dollar Bloomberg, so why waste the time.
Shipley and his ilk are snotty little creeps. Let them look down their noses at us. It makes me smile.

Trinity CollegeThis pair of cottages does not seem to have been allocated street numbers in the 1840s, which indicates that (unlike the other four cottages in the row, which were private homes until 1885) they were already being used by the college. At the time of the 1881 census they were occupied by the porter, John Smith, and six undergraduate lodgers.
Originally built in about 1680, these cottages were demolished and rebuilt in facsimile in 1970. They are jointly Grade II listed (1485/139H) with the other cottages and the main gate.

For Some Ohioans, Even Meat Is Out Of Reach
A generation ago, the livelihood of Gloria Nunez's family was built on cars.
Her father worked at General Motors for 45 years before retiring. Her mother taught driver's education. Nunez and her six siblings grew up middle class.
Things have changed considerably for this Ohio family.
Nunez's van broke down last fall. Now, her 19-year-old daughter has no reliable transportation out of their subsidized housing complex in Fostoria, 40 miles south of Toledo, to look for a job.
Nunez and most of her siblings and their spouses are unemployed and rely on government assistance and food stamps. Some have part-time jobs, but working is made more difficult with no car or public transportation.
Grew up middle class?
Nunez, 40, has never worked and has no high school degree. She says a car accident 17 years ago left her depressed and disabled, incapable of getting a job. Instead, she and her daughter, Angelica Hernandez, survive on a $637 Social Security check and $102 in food stamps.
Hernandez received her high school diploma and has had several jobs in recent years. But now, because fewer restaurants and stores are hiring, she says she finds it hard to find a job. Even if she could, she says it's particularly hard to imagine how she'll keep it. She says she needs someone to give her a lift just to get to an interview. And with gas prices so high, she's not sure she could afford to pay someone to drive her to work every day.
People tell Nunez her daughter could get more money in public assistance if she had a child.
"A lot of people have told me, 'Why don't your daughter have a kid?'"
They both reject that as a plan.
Middle class? No high school diploma. No job. No savings. 2nd generation welfare. Middle class? Oh wait, this is the new middle class for Liberal tax purposes because if you've worked, saved, planned and educated your children you are so damned rich you deserve to support those who have less than you.
The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it's more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don't buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.
Maybe Madam Pelosi will utter, 'Let them eat meat.'
UPDATE: 12 bags of groceries for $100.00? Wouldn't you like to average $8.33 per full grocery bag and that was with meat!

Obama, whose ever changing veneer that hides who he really is, has completed his presidential PR team for his Grand Tour of Europe and the Middle East. It is unclear what role the networks will fulfill. Questions concerning whether they will be tag team nannies for Obama or whether they will shape Obama's message for general consumption or whether they will wet nurse the candidate have gone unanswered.

The three network anchors will travel to Europe and the Middle East next week for Barack Obama's trip, adding their high-wattage spotlight to what is already shaping up as a major media extravaganza.

Sherrod Brown Reversing The Flow Of History

When I was young, back when the earth was still cooling, there was a saying about the poor in Kentucky that were taught the 3 'Rs' in school; Readin', writin' & Rt 23 which meant that the poor of Kentucky migrated north to Ohio where the jobs were. Of course that was when Republicans were Republicans and anti-business people were Democrats. We had the mature Tafts and clowns like Sherrod Brown were run out of town on a rail.
Now, jobs and business are flowing south across the Ohio River to Kentucky where the jobs are. They are there because Kentucky not only likes business, Kentucky also likes their citizens. The business environment in once mighty Ohio is akin to post WWII Poland. It is an environment where capitalism is wrong, capitalists are evil and when the working man loses their jobs, it isn't because of onerous government policies taxing business out of business and unions making competition noncompetitive, it is the fault of business and the evil that inhabits the business offices of business.
Enter gravel voice Sherrod "The Liberal" Brown.
DHL is negotiating with UPS to transfer work from the Ohio plant to Kentucky. They're not doing this because Ohio has made them welcome. If that were the case, the jobs might be moving from Kentucky to Ohio, but according to Sherrod's thinking that would allow business to deal in business which is, of course, unacceptable. He wants to use his position to make himself an unwelcome member of management and the federal government to act as a bully to thwart DHL & UPS desire to be more competitive.

On Monday, United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) hand-delivered petitions signed by more than 9,000 members of the community to Mike Schmitt, DHL Director of Hub Operations in Wilmington.

On Monday June 30, members of the "Save Our Jobs" coalition attempted to deliver the petitions to the Wilmington facility. According to area workers and community leaders, the petitions were refused and were eventually left with a security guard. In response to DHL’s refusal to accept petitions from area families, Brown sent a letter to Schmitt on July 3.
“Regardless of whether the dismissive treatment to which these individuals were subjected stemmed from a misunderstanding or was intentional, it must be rectified immediately,” Brown wrote. “I would like to personally deliver the petitions to you and discuss your company’s future role in Wilmington.”
"[I]t must be rectified immediately"? Whoa, Sherrod, don't scare the poor guy, what with yourpontificating resolve and your status as Grand Poo-Pah a vaunted defender of Ohioans. Keep this up, Sherrod, and you may be able to turn Ohio into a Blue state filled with unemployed workers on welfare. As an aside, if the petitions were left at the plant, what did Sherrod deliver the second time?
Next, Sherrod want to involve the Feds on a trumped up anti-trust charge.
Brown has also raised the DHL proposal with White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten. Brown asked the White House to appoint a senior administration official to marshal assistance on the issue. He also asked for the White House to help expedite a bipartisan, bicameral request for a Department of Justice anti-trust review. In addition, Brown discussed possible federal uses of the Wilmington facility in the event that the DHL-UPS deal goes through.
That's the ticket. Bully them Sherrod. Bring the full force of anti-business government against business. That should convince business from everywhere that Ohio is business friendly. Your back up plan is even better, make the empty facility into a federal government facility. I bet you thought of that during a warm and fuzzy evening discussing Plato with the Grand Kleagle of West Virginia, Billion Dollar Bob, aka the Appalachian Bail Byrd.

Maybe we can do more righteous work this coming election and put a Sherrod in the White House and fill the rest of Ohio's Republican seats with little Sherrods. Then the rest of the country will understand that Ohio is an up and coming wasteland littered with fools and anti-business neer-do-wells like our elected Senator Sherrod Brown.

Worst of all, the most enduringly popular slogans tend to be either dishonest, misattributed - or just plain dumb.
We've all heard humorless America-haters promote themselves by announcing, As Thomas Jefferson said, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."
The first problem with that self-righteous bull is that Jefferson never said it. On the contrary, he warned of the dangers of political dissension carried to extremes.
The earliest traceable provenance of the slogan goes back to an obscure 1960s lefty who just made it up (long before activist-historian Howard Zinn commandeered it).
My fellow Americans, let me ask you: Were Abby Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Sen. Barack Obama's Weatherman Underground pals (who bombed their own country) really more patriotic than those who served in Vietnam? Was trashing the campus records office truly the "highest form of patriotism?"
Why shouldn't the left make up fake quotes for the founding fathers? They make up fake Bible verses, fake history and fake science.

Just looking at a few of today's headlines gives one an indication of what is happening to the Democratic Party of today. As voters had lost confidence and no longer believed in the Republican Party prior to 1980, today's voters are doing the same to the current Democrat Party. The party lead by stalwarts such as Pelosi, Reid, Conyers, Schumer and others have created an environment of a child who has charmed, but lied one too many times and people are sick of it.

The Republican Party has an opportunity to atone for acting like drunken Democrats in Tijuana with government checkbooks and return o being Republicans in the Reagan mold. Will they do it? They really do not have a choice because their boss, the voter, is tired of them trying to buy our votes. So, as Robert Redford said, "You can kiss the Democratic Party goodbye." You can window shop for truth, but you'll only see mannequins such as Obama. They look the part, but they can't fulfill the part.
The Republican Party has an opportunity to atone for acting like drunken Democrats in Tijuana with government checkbooks and return o being Republicans in the Reagan mold. Will they do it? They really do not have a choice because their boss, the voter, is tired of them trying to buy our votes.
