on Terrorism. While there is plenty of evidence that our recent troop surge in
Iraq is working in our favor, Democrats are declaring defeat, and are even
trying to engineer it outright.

1. I played drums for a couple of bands that toured as an opening act for name bands. One day I woke up, sold my drums and went west to fight fires. My friends, fellow band members and later, after hearing tapes, my children were mystified why I didn’t make music a career. When I explained to my family that it would have been hard to have and raise children from a morgue I think they understood.
2. I heard Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan speak when I was twelve. That year I also fell in love with art and architecture as I carried nails and boards for older men building a church. It was a very important year.
3. At 15 years of age I was 12 feet tall and bullet proof and my father was small and stupid. Nine days before his birthday and 40 days before my 16th birthday he died and I found that I had had my facts exactly opposite.
4. I spent one of my birthdays with the Rolling Stones in Manhattan and Key West as an apprentice to a photographer who was shooting the images for their Black and Blue album.
5. My two best friends are almost to the left of Trotsky, but I love them like brothers.
6. I am momma’s boy. She was a beautiful and smart southern lady and my father knew it the day he met her and asked her to marry him. I once made the mistake of uttering a vulgarity in front of her. I miss her everyday.
7. I love NASCAR and everything that goes fast, but own and drive a Jeep.
8. I love pretty much all music, especially Willie Dixon and Dvořák, but at the moment I am bouncing back and forth between The Memphis Horns and Debussy when I drive my Jeep. My wife drives an A-4 slowly and tortures me by playing the Bee Gees on our long trips to the Eastern Shore. And smiles about it.

.. I cannot help thinking of all the injury and death he will cause
by whittling away at abortion rights. I think he's probably an
honorable man, with skill and integrity, but his misguided values and basic
beliefs will cause a lot of suffering that he will never see and probably never
think about.

want new Supreme Court justices instead of Roberts, Alito & Scalia (Thomas
can stay as the one actual consistent conservative) and I will take them any way
I can get them. granted, I'm assuming that none of Bush's nominees would
be able to get through, and that we'd have 8 justices until a centrist Dem
justice could get confirmed after the election. If it makes anyone feel
better, I'm not rooting for death, simply incapacitation to the point that they
must resign their posts. It's not my fault those are the only two ways for
justices to leave (other than resignation, which will never
happen).

candidates not to appear at any debate sponsored by Fox, and are also trying to

We have confirmed that Tillman had arranged to meet with a leading anti-war

poster-boy hero of the War on Terror returning home and speaking out against the evil charade of the War.
That aspect, combined with the nature of the wounds, the destruction of
evidence, the first-level coverup, and the dream promotion of the commander in

Similarly — as I noted in the post — there are a complexity of issues
involved in what are most frequently trotted out as racial disparities. You
bring up redlining without saying exactly with what about the practice you take
offense. Is it the fact that the subprime loans are granted in the first placde?
Or the fact that they are granted disproportionately to minorities?
The reason why Blacks (or Hispanics) find themselves with lower credit ratings
isn’t, I don’t think, intrinsic to race. We can trace the policies that got us
there, but they are many and varied.
I argued some of these particular instances several years ago with
Aaron Hawkins of Uppity Negro (who has since passed away), including
disproportionate traffic stops for Blacks in certain areas, etc.

But overall, it’s been my contention that policies that tend to focus
on fixing “racial disparity” — when the solution is tied solely to race (again,
I have written in favor of affirmative action based on opportunity) often times
do nothing but either exacerbate the disparity, or else have the effect of
creating a new group of victims or perceived victims, which in turn leads to a
stoking of racial animus.
