Paul Watson, founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and
famous for militant intervention to stop whalers, now warns mankind is “acting
like a virus” and is harming Mother Earth.

Watson’s May 4 editorial asked the question “The Beginning of the End
for Life as We Know it on Planet Earth?” Then he left no doubt about the answer.
“We are killing our host the planet Earth,” he claimed and called for a
population drop to less than 1 billion.

The commentary reminded readers that Watson had called humans a disease before and he wasn’t sorry. “I was once severely criticized for describing human beings
as being the ‘AIDS of the Earth.’ I make no apologies for that statement,” the
column continued.

Watson was invoking the worst of Robert Malthus, an English political economist who claimed that mankind was overpopulating the earth. That claimed first appeared in the late 1700s.

Watson urged some solutions for mankind as part of a process to “need to re-wild
the planet”:

· “No human community should be larger than 20,000 people and separated from other communities by wilderness areas.” New York, London, Paris, Moscow are all too big. Then again, so are Moose Jaw, Timbuktu and even Annapolis, Md.
· “We need vast areas of the planet where humans do not live at all and where other species are free to evolve without human interference.”
· “We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion.”
· “Sea transportation should be by sail. The big clippers were the finest ships ever built and sufficient to our needs. Air transportation should be by solar powered blimps when air transportation is necessary.”
· At least Watson was generous and said people could still talk with one another across great distances. “Communication systems can link the communities,” he proclaimed from on high.

The Watson rant kept on going calling for everything from cutting down on the population of domesticated dogs and cats to cutting down on everything else in what he called “simplify, simplify, simplify.”

Watson essentially called for humans to return to primitive lifestyles. “We need to stop flying, stop driving cars, and jetting around on marine recreational vehicles. The
Mennonites survive without cars and so can the rest of us.”

But, I am not Mennonite. Plus, I am not giving up my poopies. Besides, is an industry that can build a blimp acceptable in this knave new world?

Trent Lott:No Time Lines in Iraq Except Republican Timelines

As the nation wearies of Liberal political games and non-support of the troops by setting timelines, Republicans stepped up their campaign to be more Liberal by playing political games and displaying non-support of the troops by setting timelines. BUT, they're going to delay an actual timeline on setting the timeline by four months. BUT not wanting to risk their political skins the Republicans want to signal their support for the troops by relaying their intentions now. Brilliant!

If the Republicans pursue this they are morons, absolute and complete. I have friends in DC that actually believe we lost the majorities because of Iraq and it never crosses their minds that we lost those majorities because of incompetence and corruption. In short, Iraq cost us, but what really cost us the majorities was that Republicans became Democrats.

GOP Senator: Patience on Iraq Is Limited

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republican Whip Trent Lott said Monday that
President Bush's new strategy in Iraq has until about fall before GOP members
will need to see results.

Lott's comment put a fine point on what Senate Republican stalwarts
have been discussing quietly for weeks. It also echoed remarks made this weekend by House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, indicating the GOP's limited patience on the war.

"I do think this fall we have to see some significant changes on the
ground, in Baghdad and other surrounding areas," Lott, R-Miss., told reporters.

Lott declined to say what he thinks should happen if Congress does not
see improvement in the security situation by then. But he said lawmakers have
time before they must decide.

When will hairmut Lott learn to keep his mouth shut? He got slapped down once, but played the parliamentary game to get back in the leadership and now perceives himself to be a statesman.

Lott's brand of statesmanship makes Republicans look no better than the Democrats that undermine our troops, that cause good people in this country to lose faith and helps ensure a slaughter in Iraq's future and America's standing in the world to sink lower.

He says Republicans will wait 4 more months or until the fall. This backstabbing caricature didn't listen to Patreaus either, but attacks Democrats for failing to support freedom, national security and our troops.

These past 12 years have made me wonder where our Republican Party has gone.

Pennington, 42, was booked on suspicion of being under the influence of

alcohol and drugs while driving, the TMZ.com Web site reported.

He was arrested shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday by the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division, according to inmate information posted on the county Sheriff's Department Web site.

Pennington was released two hours later after posting $5,000 bail and was due back in court June 4, according to the Web site.

Los Angeles police officials said Monday they had no further information

Antiwar Groups Use New Clout to Influence Democrats on Iraq
Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) is supposedly the new kid in town, but is actually made up of the same old kids that have been around for quite a while.

Take a boat load of democrat operatives, mix in liberal and progressive players, unions and their stooges and we have a new stew of a “grass roots” effort otherwise know as astro turfing.

It is astro turfing in that there has been no nationwide emergence of a grass roots effort to abandon Iraq and Afghanistan. AAEI has grown from non-existence to its current size having allied groups in every state that are able to plan and schedule “protests” and events over night through the normal astro turfing processes of mixed media, including letters to the editor, e-mails, blog posts and various link backs (ex. Trackbacks), forums, and online petitions and mailers. This effort is also astro turfing because the “anti-war” groups have gained new “clout” by influencing their old bosses, friends and organizations as inside networkers and it can be done with no traditional trail thus exemplifying their “grassroots” appearance. I can only presume that there is more than Democrat and union money behind this effort because the participants are adamant that there is no Soros hiding behind the curtain.

All of this is an effort to magnify their message and give the appearance of being huge when in fact their effort is not. To hear Harry Reid, every single person except the lonely Bushs have written, called, e-mailed or visited him to beg him to hear the cry of the nation to save our troops by pulling out of Iraq now.

The Love of a Self Titled Crime is Hateful

Special Victims Have to Wait in Line with the Rest of Us

This is a cynical piece of work. The Dems can use it to campaign on their
tough attitude toward hate crimes — hmm… are there any love crimes? — and the
Republicans can use it to taunt the Dems for trying to blow the federal balloon
just that much bigger.

Hate crimes, as used by the Left, are crimes they hope to be codified in the United States Code as a Title 18 law to obliquely legalize certain groups by making them victims with legal recourse without ever having to openly pass protective legislation. It is political cover to legalize unacceptable legislation to broaden the Left's base through emotional and political bribery.

"are there any love crimes?" asks the insightful Dymphna of Gates of Vienna.

Love crimes are pretty much the same as hate crimes in that they hurt the Republic by enabling the Left's desire to be a governmental nanny that would control what is not theirs.

For government to codify love and hate is ludicrous. For historians to categorize hate is a standardized practice based upon historian's belief of what is acceptable in their present which is only, at best, relative. Love is a myriad of things that artists have captured best, but historians have mostly ignored love as not relevant to the study of movements and their impact.

Will historians accept that hate is a motivating factor in the actions of Islam's most fanatical and deranged practitioners or will the terrorist's pronounced love of the Koran be cited as their motivation? Which is the crime? Love or hate?

Will government judge the crimes of the Irish Republican Army as love of country or hatred of England? Will that government's judgement be based on the 21st century, the 20th, the 19th or ad nauseam back to when nobody remembers the beginning of the conflict except through shaky oral histories of people long dead? Is that remembrance worthy of a law and if so, by which government?

What of environmentalists that plant spikes in trees to wound and discourage loggers from cutting down what environmentalists believe is the future of the earth. Who will codify their love of the earth or their hatred of their perceived anti-mother earth group or government with which they so violently disagree?

Will codified hate crimes make convicted Nazis any deader? Would hate crimes have prevented the Reichstag fire, Kristallnacht, the Kayton Forest, the Rape of Nanking as practiced by the political leaders of the time? No, hate crime legislation will never stop crime. What is the goal of hate crime legislation if not to stop crime? Is the fundamental goal of those behind hate crime legislation a higher court, possibly a world court, that will supercede all our lesser government courts? I think that is a probable goal with individual state legislated hate crime legislation as merely tactical steps to that end.

Will it be judged a hate crime that this world court, as envisioned by the Left, only appoints those of the Left, shutting out all others, to such a praeternatural body? If so, which legal body will judge them? Ad nauseam, as deja vous, all over again.

President Bush is right to veto such legislation as ludicrous and a cynical political grab to further the Left's power and control of government(s).

The man who might save Iraq

He is a former Sunni Arab mujahid from Ramadi who until recently was
fighting the US occupation. He has only a secondary education and
is married with two wives. Now he is praised even by urban, secular, highly
educated Shi'ites as a "conscious man", or "the kind of man we need now in
Iraq". Sheikh Abdul Satter Abu Risha is the leader of the Anbar Sovereignty
Council, a powerful coalition of Anbar tribes, including at least 200 sheikhs,
that is fighting the Salafi jihadis of al-Qaeda in Iraq/the Islamic
Emirate of Iraq in the volatile province.

Abu Risha set up the council after his father and two brothers were killed
by al-Qaeda's extreme methods last autumn. In an exclusive telephone interview
with Asia Times Online, he stated, unambiguously, that al-Qaeda "has abused our
traditions and generosity" and, he alleged, they even "take drugs" - a mortal
sin in conservative Islam.

Sheikh Ali Hattan al-Suleiman, also from the council, was even more direct:
"I'd like to see an al-Qaeda bomber e-mail me or telephone me and talk about his
education. They just came here with money. They gave money to the unemployed.
They are not Iraqis - only Arabs. They are bastards. And the people who follow
them are also bastards."

Abu Risha totally dismissed rumors that the Anbar council is forcing
families in the region to give their sons to the cause, or is engaged in summary
execution of captured jihadis. "We only accept volunteers. And we work by
ourselves, like a team, by shifts. When we arrest people from al-Qaeda or Iraqis
working for al-Qaeda, we take them to the Iraqi Army or the Ministry of
Interior."

I believe that freedom and democracy will work in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why? The Iraqis and Afghanis are good people and they're smart.

To those that say democracy cannot work there, I ask them to explain the 180 degree turn the people of Germany, Japan and now Turkey have made. A little over 60 years ago the Japanese people pledged complete fealty to their emperor who was their god.

If kos is to be believed, half of the people in America are too stupid to think, but freedom and democracy have done pretty well here.

In the heady opening weeks of the 110th Congress, the Democrats' domestic agenda appeared to be flying through the Capitol: Homeland security upgrades, a higher minimum wage and student loan interest rate cuts all passed with
overwhelming bipartisan support.

But now that initial progress has foundered as Washington
policymakers have been consumed with the debate over the Iraq war. Not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the "do nothing" tag they slapped on Republicans last year could come back to haunt them.

"We cannot be a one-trick pony," said House Democratic Caucus Chairman
Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), who helped engineer his party's takeover of Congress as
head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "People voted for
change, but Iraq, the economy and Washington, D.C., [corruption] all tied for
first place. We need to do them all."

Dems May Use NSA to Study Effects of English on Hispanic Elected Officials

House GOP hits shift of spy funds to study climate

Intelligence panel Chairman Silvestre Reyes, Texas Democrat, said the
climate-change study is one of several shifts his party has made to intelligence
policy.

"We're concerned that global warming might impact our ability to maintain
national security," he told The Times, describing the idea as "cutting edge."

"We want to get feedback from the intelligence community to understand if
there are possible global issues," Mr. Reyes said, noting the change was on the
advice of "several former military commanders."

The panel voted 11-9 to keep the provision that directs a National
Intelligence Estimate "on the anticipated geopolitical effects of global climate
change and the implications of such effects on the national security of the
United States," according to a Republican staffer familiar with the bill.

As the ex-Chief Patrol Agent of the El Paso Border Patrol Sector, Reyes might plan to reassign the Patrol to studying anorexia because the lack of food has historically been a major cause of undocumented immigration.

UPDATE: Conservative Culture thinks this might be a Liberal plan.

Is the Episcopal Church a Church?

Episcopal “gayness” is a symptom, not the cause.

I was raised (dragged up) in the Episcopal Church. My parents had me enter the confirmation process and I was confirmed in the church. I chose to become an acolyte which was a challenge for the good Fathers of my church for I was an imp.

I found solace in the church at a temptuous (it is a word in my dictionary) time of raging hormones evident in most young men. My impishness had grown in scope and no longer was it considered cute, so I was packed off to military school where the church became even more important to me. The military regime of the school was really chaffing my shorts and the attendance and study associated with the church was not only invigorating, but was also a freeing respite from the stifling daily routine.

The Episcopal Church changed my life for the better.

Our Sunday mass, held in the church, was long and very public with the entire cadet corp. I found Wednesday evening mass, only for those confirmed in a smaller chapel, to be more intimate and rewarding. My weekly confession was very trying for all concerned.

The Episcopal Father in charge of me was younger priest, a true inspiration and a positive governor on my racing motor. He and his wife would have picnics on their lawn for us acolytes on many Sunday afternoons when it was warm. He was a father figure and a Father to me. As I am now, I still think of his advice often. I also remember that he gave me more punishment whacks than any other cadet in the Company.

I was married in the Episcopal Church. The Church had a problem when we asked for a “28 Prayer Book” wedding service. The older 1928 Prayer Book had been a victim of the Episcopal Church’s Vatican 2-lite purge of its history for a bold new path not only in the church’s liturgy, but also its daily practice of God’s word. My marriage was the first time, as an adult, that I had to face the diverging paths my church and I were taking.

Today, the Episcopal Church wears the face of being the “gay church” and the church is losing membership at an alarming rate. The church has a gay Bishop, a history of acceptance of the gay lifestyle, and now ex-Governor “gay American” McGreevy, the self confessed “devout catholic”, is using the Episcopal Church for part of his rehabilitation and the Episcopal Church is his willing conspirator.

The problem of the Episcopal Church is not its “gayness”, the problem is the church’s conscious switch from religion to social movement as witnessed by the church’s “gayness”. As a young man, I saw it during the Vietnam War as the church preached its anti-war politics from the pulpit instead of giving succor and spiritual guidance to those suffering from the war, both participants and those opposed. While living in Washington, DC I sadly went to a memorial service for one of my sisters at the National Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The celebration of her life was held in her favorite place, the Bethlehem Chapel in the crypt. As my wife and I walked towards the crypt stairs, we were visually accosted by large images of AIDS victims hanging throughout the nave and the transept. In the images and the writings, only our national sin of not caring enough was addressed, not the sin that brought the need for these images.

The Episcopal Church, as a social movement, cannot invoke the “hate the sin/love the sinner” rule because that is a rule used in religion where God’s judgment and laws exist. Instead of ministering to the disaffected, the church’s appalling need for public acceptance and applause from the public has taken it far from its role of ministering the word of God.

The Episcopal's McGreevys are only a symptom and not the cause for my leaving the Episcopal Church. That and the fact that the Episcopal Church cannot see itself in the mirror. That has left a hole in my heart.

Police: Bugs Found In Bottles Of Alcohol
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- As Columbus health officials monitor local restaurants
for code violations, Columbus vice detectives search restaurants and bars for
unsanitary conditions of alcohol.

Detectives said they see insects in alcohol far too often, NBC 4's
Elizabeth Scarborough reported.

"Typically every day we go, we find it," an undercover detective said.

The insects usually found are fruit flies that are attracted to alcohol for its sugars. Police said the insects can be kept out by proper cleaning and checking. Most patrons have no idea it's even a problem.

Detectives walk into a bar unannounced and check each bottle of liquor with a flashlight.

If they find insects, the detectives send a report to the liquor commission, which issues a violation in the form of a fine of a few hundred dollars or a license suspension.

Out of four locations checked on Wednesday, three of them had bugs in their liquor.

On Sullivant Avenue, Vern's had two bottles and Rocky Top had one bottle.

On High Street, Blue Danube Bar and Restaurant had three bottles and O'Reilley's
Pub was clean.

Detectives said the only way to be sure alcohol is clean is to drink out of a previously unopened bottle.

Columbus police vice squad officers said that in 2006, there were about 40 establishments where bugs were found in bottles of alcohol.

What did they know about Buggate and when did they know it?

More importantly, how many of these bugs were smoking, because nothing sucks more than going home with smokey, drunk bugs in your hair. Especially from the Dube.

Today, the president is vetoing a war funding bill that sets timetables for
withdrawing U.S. troops. For some Democratic presidential candidates, the
anniversary was a time to emphasize their opposition to the war. “Four years
after President Bush landed on an aircraft carrier and declared ‘Mission
Accomplished,’ we are still in a war where more than one hundred American
service members have died in just the month of April,” Sen. Barack Obama said in
a statement. “We grieve for them today and urge the President to avoid making
another tragic mistake by signing the bill that will end this war and bring our
troops home.”

Sen. Hillary Clinton called the speech “one of the most shameful episodes in American history. Never before in our history has a President said ‘mission accomplished’ when the mission had barely begun. Never before has a president pulled a political stunt when so many American lives were and remain in harm’s way.”

And former Sen. John Edwards said that Bush’s “disastrous mismanagement of the war has left our troops in harm’s way and made Iraq a breeding ground for terrorists.”

In the 2004 speech, Bush never actually uttered the words “mission
accomplished,” but did say the broader war on terrorism was not yet
over “but we have seen the turning of the tide. No act of the terrorists will
change our purpose, or weaken our resolve, or alter their fate. Their cause is
lost. Free nations will press on to victory.” (emphasis mine)

The banner was made for the USS Abraham's successful mission. It was not made for the President's speech, but why would Democrats let facts get in the way of a good dig at the president.

(Re)writing History, Losers Become Winners

I love history. In comfort, I get to read about great adversity and how it is dealt with, but there is history as it was and there is history as some would have it be. As professors issued assignments concerning the historical movements (then) of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and LULAC and the Hispanic "Brown Berets" modeled after the Black Panthers, I read about Chief Joseph, the Alamo and about missionaries taming the wilds on my own.

In my classes I read, because I needed the grade, an altered history written by peoples who had lost, but wrote that actually they were winning because they had been wronged. As a class, we all were expected to weep at the Anglo injustices visited upon "indigenous" people at Wounded Knee. The book was moving. It contained some fact, but "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" ultimately was a fiction that was taught to a generation.

My professors were in love with the false parallels they were teaching to their own perceived recent histories of protest and perception failures that in their minds were victories, because misery loves company.

They did not love the slaughter of Southeast Asia, nor the misery of those under totalitarian and communist rule. They did love the promise these political theories promised and they loved the glimpse of power they perceived to be theirs through protesting and never looked into the eyes of the dead and beaten for any perception of truth. Their histories were more palatable, glorious and gratifying. As is most fiction.

History is always being written. Fiction as history is a history that ignores or twists facts to the personal. The personal becomes a "new" history just as heartfelt as the history of those that indeed look back in reality. The success of the reader becomes the ability to discern between the personal and the cumulative reality of history.

A Loser's History

And now comes Tenet, the man who got everything wrong and who ran the
agency that couldn't think straight, to ask us to sympathize with his moanings
about "Iraq—who, me?"

A highly irritating expression in Washington has it that "hindsight is
always 20-20." Would that it were so. History is not a matter of hindsight and
is not, in fact, always written by the victors. In this case, a bogus history is
being offered by a real loser whose hindsight is cockeyed and who had no
foresight at all.

The great power of new technology is that the personal histories of self serving authors are more quickly exposed for what they are. Fiction that panders.

Tenent has written his own "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"and professors are lining up students to accept the "truth" of the book to support the fiction of their "history". It is history all over again.

Bill, Penny, GOP Wane

I grew up on William F. Buckley, Jr. My parents loved him. I thought anyone that could talk like that must be onto something. Hell, the guy was preaching the good gospel of Conservatism before America had discovered AuH2O64.Mr. Buckley was impressive, brave and stalwart in the face of the cloying pervasiveness of the Liberal tsunami called politics in the 60’s.

He wrote novels on scraps of papers while flying off to God knows where, sailed the open sea with the teeth and eye glint of FDR and, he even built his own harpsichord for goodness sake.

Penny is my favorite waitress where I get my gruel locally. She always has had pearls of wisdom whether you wanted to hear them or not. A hangover got you a lecture of seismic proportion which was made up of “Ya did to urself nidiot” exclaimated with a glare and spilt coffee preferably splashing your wrist.

The woman could carry ten plates slathered with food, barking orders to the younger staff, greeting customers, comforting those still waiting for their food with a friendly “Don’t git urn nads flamed, I’m gittin there”, all while surveying what had to be completed next.

Bill thinks the GOP is on the wane. Penny thinks their done. Bill creates a symphony of historical allegories to bolster why his thinking has a raisons d'être. Penny thinks the “assholes shoulda been done with it” and just bombed them back to the stone age.

One is a figure of national importance while the other is an indicator of local importance. They both are exhibiting what their lives have opposed; a lack of resolve.

Bill states, “The generation of Christians moved by their faith overwhelmed the regimented reserves of the Roman state.” While Penny has always tutored, :Ya want, git it, otherwise quit crappin yerself.”

I ask myself why have these two changed a lifetime of inner-wisdom. The one is the press and the other hates the press. Bill has an education that is the envy of many. Penny has an education that Bill could not match. Bill works in an environment of privilege and beauty. Penny works in a swirl of people, smells and the movement of people who just don’t want to be late, but they do want to be full.

William Frank Buckley, Junior is a Irish Roman Catholic. Penny’s mother used to go to church.

They both are pragmatists who have lost their faith and have lost the faith in what they have most believed, the American spirit.

I have seen two icons fall.

Ritual-washing area for Muslims at MCTC may be only the beginning
Last week, I wrote about Minneapolis Community and Technical College, which
is planning to install facilities to help Muslim students perform ritual washing
before daily prayers. It's a simple matter of extending "hospitality" to
newcomers, says President Phil Davis -- no different than providing a fish
option in the college cafeteria for Christian students during Lent.

MCTC must have a helluva fish budget, but what's a little "hospitalty" between forced friends?

Christian, Jewish Islamic practices are welcomed to MCTC in the name of diversity. Christian, Jewish Islamic practices that seek to make MCTC the Christian, Jewish Islamic showcase of educational establishments seem to be the only way to show Islamofascists that we just want to get along.

Dianna Cusick, MCTC's director of legal affairs, is overseeing the project.
She referred me to the Muslim Accommodations Task Force, whose website she is
using as a primary resource (www.startribune.com/2617). "They've
done all the research," she said.

The task force's eventual objectives on American campuses include the
following, according to the website: permanent Muslim prayer spaces, ritual
washing facilities, separate food and housing for Muslim students, separate
hours at athletic facilities for Muslim women, paid imams or religious
counselors, and campus observance of Muslim holidays.

The task force isn't operated by overly enthusiastic college students. Its
professional staff, based in the Washington, D.C., area, includes coordinators
who provide legal advice, teach students to lobby, write letters on their
behalf, and help them overcome "obstacles" such as college administrators'
concerns about violating the separation of church and state.

The Muslim Accommodations Task Force is a project of the Muslim Student
Association of the U.S. and Canada. MSA's mission is to enable Muslims here "to
practice Islam as a complete way of life," and its "main goal" is "spreading
Islam," according to its website. The association calls itself the "landmark
Muslim organization in North America," and says it has chapters on 600
campuses.

Lincoln, RFK were anti-war 'traitors,' too

Amid all the protests, anti-protests and anti-protest protests accompanying
Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to Provo this week, Utah Attorney General
Mark Shurtleff got so caught up with microphone fever that he forgot his manners and lost his sense of history all at the same time.
In a speech at a pro-Cheney rally, the A.G. compared the anti-war rants of Rocky Anderson and Harry Reid to fabled war propagandists Tokyo Rose and Hanoi Hannah, calling the mayor of Salt Lake and the majority leader of the U.S. Senate "Iraqi Rocky" and "Hezbollah Harry," respectively.

He said they are aiding the enemy by suggesting we are losing the
war.

OK, forget that we are losing the war and forget that we're not even
real sure who the enemy is and even forget Shurtleff's lapsing into trash talk,
an art form I've always, where appropriate, rather enjoyed.

We’re losing the war Lee? We don’t know who the enemy is? Military expert, are you, eh? Or do you have military experts who aren’t disgruntled ex’s or trying to make a buck, who back you up? Besides, Harry didn't suggest that we are losing the war. He stated we were losing the war.

But what's with calling American politician war protesters traitors?

Disagreeing with this country's warfaring is as American as changing
your own oil.

Disagreeing, yes. Giving support to the enemy, especially as a Democratic leader of the Senate, is a tad different. Nice touch, that "changing your own oil" thing in place of "as American as apple pie". Really puts the war in context for you, doesn't it Lee.

Here are five names for Shurtleff: William Franklin, Abraham Lincoln,
Thomas Brackett Reid, Woodrow Wilson and Bobby Kennedy.

The thing they all have in common: All were war protesters.

William Franklin was governor of New Jersey when he protested the
Revolutionary War (and lost his job) in 1776 — much to the chagrin of his
father, Benjamin Franklin.

Ah, William had his reasons for being anti-war as the American colonial administrator and the last of the royal governors of New Jersey. He chose to support Great Britain throughout the American Revolution. His father, Ben Franklin, refused to support or speak to him the rest of his life. Words have meaning and actions have consequences Lee.

Abraham Lincoln was a U.S. congressman from Illinois in 1846 when he
protested President James K. Polk's Mexican-American war, calling Polk "a
bewildered, confounded and miserably perplexed man."

Lincoln called Polk's justification of the war unconstitutional, unnecessary and expensive, calling Polk "a bewildered, confounded and miserably perplexed man." Long way, even by Internet standards, from aiding and abetting the enemy. Lee, tell us just how anti-war Lincoln was after the "unprovoked" attack on Fort Sumter. This anti-war hero of yours didn't even have box cutter murderers slitting the throats of passengers and using the high jacked vehicles to murder more than 3,000 innocent civilians to blame for declaring war. Maybe he should have talked them to death, because there surely wasn't a military solution. Which was Lincoln Lee, anti war or craven war monger just looking for an excuse to wage war?

Thomas Brackett Reid of Maine was speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives
in 1898 when he resigned in protest of the Spanish-American war.

Resigned in protest? Don't get my hopes up Lee. Do you think Harry has that much moral conviction? Nah, neither do I.

Woodrow Wilson won the presidency in 1916 on the strength of an anti-war
campaign to keep America out of World War I (and a year later sent us into it
anyway).

And after Wilson entered the US into the war the effort became a bi-partisan effort to win with the Republicans winning control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in 1918. Bi-partisan Lee. When the troops were in the field. Are you seeing a difference here Lee.

Bobby Kennedy was a U.S. senator from New York in 1968 when he called for a
return of troops from Vietnam and declared his candidacy for the presidency
occupied by Vietnam supporter and fellow Democrat, Lyndon Johnson.

RFK in most of his campaign speeches in 1968 called for “peace” in Vietnam, offering a “negotiated settlement, but did not as belittle our troops or our effort. How ironic that you use RFK in your argument when it was Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian terrorist who assassinated Bobby Kennedy.

These men are not alone. American politicians have been protesting wars
since America started fighting in them. Even entering World War II wasn't
unanimous. When Congress voted on Dec. 8, 1941, 388 voted yes to one no from
avowed pacifist Jeannette Rankin of Montana.

She might have been unpopular, but she sure wasn't Tokyo Rose.

"As a woman, I can't go to war and I refuse to send anyone else. I vote 'NO'". However she did not vote against declaring war on Germany and Italy following their declaration of war on the U.S. Instead, she voted merely "Present."

That was "Present" Lee, not "The war is lost". That was a "No" vote to declare war, not a "You're a stupid man because I am smarter than you and you're not listening to me. I want the power" type of statement that makes the enemy think we don't have resolve as a nation.

Oh, and she didn't run next time. Maybe Harry shouldn't.

Words have meaning as do actions.

People do not want more leaders and elected officials that plan secret draconian health plans, that spend our money like drunks in Tijuana and treat our soldiers like temporary employees. Yep, people are ready for leaders and elected officials that remember who remember who put them there and that remember who's paying the bill.

Clinton Denounces 'Mission Accomplished'

Her voice raspy from days of campaigning, Clinton brought delegates to
their feet when she said she wished she could turn the clock back to a different
time.

"Somebody said to me that he wished we could just rewind the 21st century and just eliminate the Bush-Cheney administration, with all their mistakes and
misjudgments," she said to cheers. "People are ready for leaders who understand
it is our votes who put them in power, our tax dollars that pay the bills."

She lambasted the "Mission Accomplished" speech nearly four years ago,
in which Bush declared an end to major military actions in Iraq. He made the
comment while on the deck of an aircraft carrier off the California coast.

That speech, Clinton said, was "one of the most shameful episodes in
American history. ... The only mission he accomplished was the re-election of
Republicans."

I've worked for Republicans and the Republican Party and Republicans blew it. They didn't blow it in Iraq and Afghanistan, but they did screw the pooch in the Pentagon and the Old Executive Building when they failed to fully understand what the troops and the people needed. Both were and are ready to get the job done if they only knew what the job is.

Republicans blew it when, once in power, they became Democrats. They played the same "get everything in my district or state named after me" pork game. They became "statesmen", or actually "statespersons", to win over the press and blunt their "anti-intellectual" perception. They may have worked hard, but they forgot who they were working for.

Mizz Clinton speaks of "one of the most shameful episodes" in a non-Jolson patois to give it due gravitas. Republicans can counter with many more shameful episodes, while republicans snark about blue dresses, noting such Clintonian issues as the failure of of pre-9/11 intelligence as seen by the Berger burglaries, their abuse of power, their pursuit of race and class warfare, their desire for socialized medicine and other programs, and the whole Evita complex.

President Bush has many failures, but he has been resolute on the GWOT, taxes and the court. Not bad, but, as they say, "a day late and a dollar short", because even at this late date most Americans don't think that.

If the people, actually the voter, believes that elected politicians will remember who put them there, those voters will vote for them. Not, as the cynics say, because the elected officials will bring the bling home, but because those elected are doing what is best for the Republic.

A minority believed in the formation of this nation, a minority believed in the equality of all men, a minority believed in the Reagan Revolution, a minority believed in the Contract With America and now a minority believe in the future of America. In each case, what made these things possible is that a majority hoped they would work.

If politicians sincerely put ideals into action the people will follow. If the people believe that politicians care only about elections, voters will wonder why they should care.

Somebody once said to me that they wished they could erase the embarrassment that led America in the last eight years of the 20th century. I told them that wishing against reality wasn't realistic, but my daughter was 15 years of age at the time, not a Presidental candidate.

The most shameful episode in this minor episode of Ms Clinton's quest for power is her flippant and political slur that President Bush, and thousands in his administration, used soldier's blood merely to re-elect Republicans.

I am still waiting for an electable politician for President that personifies Ms Clinton's ideal of a leader who understands who voted them into power and who also remembers that the taxpayer pays the bills. I don't need a cynic who recounts the "most shameful episodes" to cover their own and I also do not need a politician that treats the voter, the soldier, the taxpayer and the citizen as their "little people".

Of course, that is the Liberal problem in that they vote people into power, they don't elect people to represent the power of the people. Maybe Republicans should remember that as well.

We, the members of the Senate Democratic Caucus, contest the attack on
Sen. Harry Reid's leadership by David S. Broder in his April 26 column, "The
Democrats' Gonzales."

In contrast to Mr. Broder's insinuations, we believe Mr. Reid is an
extraordinary leader who has effectively guided the new Democratic majority
through these first few months with skill and aplomb.

The Democratic caucus is diverse, and Mr. Reid has worked tirelessly to
make sure that the views of each member are heard and represented. No one
ideology dominates the caucus, so that a consensus can be reached and unity
achieved. It is hard to imagine a better model for leadership.

Because Mr. Reid has the support of members of the caucus, is a good
listener and has an amazing ability to synthesize views and bring people
together, the Senate has accomplished a great deal during his time as majority
leader. Armed with his years of service in the Senate and with a mastery of
procedure, Mr. Reid has led the chamber with a slim majority and a minority that
is, at times, determined to stop legislation with which it disagrees.

In the first 100 days alone, we made great strides under his leadership
on long-neglected legislation concerning stem cell research, the Sept. 11
commission's recommendations and the minimum wage, to name three. In addition, under Mr. Reid's leadership, we have fulfilled our obligation, left uncompleted by last year's Republican-led Senate, to fund the federal government. He has accomplished all of this in the face of stiff opposition and with a commitment to giving ideas full opportunity for debate.

Finally, in this age of scripted politicians speaking only to their
base or claiming that they "don't recall" anything, the fact that Mr. Reid
speaks his mind should be applauded, not derided. His brand of straight talk is
honest, comes from the heart and speaks directly to the people.

New law sounds full of hot air

BARMY Euro MPs are demanding new laws to stop cows and sheep PARPING.

Their call came after the UN said livestock emissions were a bigger
threat to the planet than transport.

The MEPs have asked the European Commission to “look again at the livestock question in direct connection with global warming”.
