Entrepreneurs VS Bad Government & Unions In Ohio

Ohio has had a bad run these past years. When I left for DC to work many years ago Ohio had one of the lowest tax rates in the country and the state was thriving. Upon returning, I told my wife how great Ohio was and we were shocked at what we found. Liberal Democrats were in place and little republicans acted just like them. Ohio, my home state that I love, was looking like Michigan and losing jobs almost as fast while taxes continued to go up and up. We actually pay higher taxes than we did in the People's Republic of Montgomery in Maryland.

Ohio is dying. Dying at the hands of do-gooders supporting legislators at all levels garnering power in the name of the people in order to keep and grow their power. They have, like blue states, harnessed the power to bribe large sections of the electorate and money people. They are killing one of the best states in the nation that used to be a bell weather state that quietly suggested the future of the country through large and small industry, agriculture, a vast higher education system and politics. As Ohio went, so went the nation.

Now, as the nation goes, so went Ohio, downward to the "common good" to the detriment of all that is good. Small sections of society were held up by special interest groups and politicians as those that deserve the ideal of an America that gives grace. Large chunks of the economy were taken from the majority to finance this grace, but those chunks, in both large and small amounts, started to erode the financial base and goodwill of Ohio's people and employers. Both started leaving for states that envied what Ohio had, thus those other states did something smart, they lured them with lower taxes and less government. They went. Not Ohio, they, our people, our best, went. Ohio became a coastal state in thought, but without the coast.

As the outward trickle of "doers" grew, politicians, organizers, special interest groups and bureaucrats drew from the past, failed models of ideals. They bemoaned that if only we "helped" resurrect failed ideals such as (forced) government supported unions, larger governmental intrusion into the failed sections of society and more taxes as examples, Ohio would prosper and become a "good" state, but not if we returned to our old hayseed ways. Ohio became a union state with the government, including teachers, as the largest union. A union of bureaucrats.

There are a few who belie this trend through entrepreneurship and the ability to keep ahead of the blackmail payments to the federal, state and local authorities. I don't believe they are all Republicans or Democrats, they are driven to do their best. They give their best to their workers, their community and the state.

Ohio needs entrepreneurs, but most will go elsewhere to find a better environment in which to do their magic. Our environment will not improve until Republicans stop acting like liberals.

Until then, Ohio will continue its decent into a third-state environment. Like Michigan.

And now we have Obama, Pelosi and Reid running the executive and legislative branchs of government. They're two thirds of the way to their goal.

Democrats Don't Like The Constitution "Our people can virtually taste this vote"

States have constitutional rights to representation, districts and cities do not.

The District of Columbia is our federal city.

Senate Committee Passes Bill
A Senate committee easily passed a bill yesterday that would give the District its first full seat in the House of Representatives, sending it to the full chamber for a crucial vote expected in the next few weeks or months.

Two of the three Republicans present -- Susan Collins (Maine) and George V. Voinovich (Ohio) -- backed the bill.
...

McCain said that the bill violated the Constitution's provision that House representatives be chosen by "the people of the several states," since the District is not a state.

"I think it's unconstitutional," he said. He added, "If the District of Columbia deserves a member of the House of Representatives, they deserve two senators as well."

Many Republicans have been wary that the bill could lead to two D.C. seats in the Senate, which would probably give Democrats a significant boost. The question of constitutionality has elicited differing opinions from legal scholars. If the bill becomes law, it is expected to face an immediate legal challenge.

Supporters at the hearing argued that the bill would right a historical wrong.

Sen. Roland W. Burris (D-Ill.), who was recently appointed to fill President Barack Obama's Senate seat, said he became aware of the D.C. vote issue when he attended the Howard University School of Law in the early 1960s.

"It's about time we get some representation for the District of Columbia," he said.

Democrats hold a 58 to 41 advantage in the Senate. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) said she believed the bill had the 60 Senate supporters necessary to overcome a filibuster.

"Our people can virtually taste this vote," she said.

The composition of the House of Representatives is described in Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution:

The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second
Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall
have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of
the State Legislature.

There are ways that the district could be represented in Congress. One such way is through a non-voting member which currently is Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton in the House.

Another, retrocession, ceding the District of Columbia back to Maryland, has been discussed, but Maryland wisely wants no part of that. The Virginia section of the District of Columbia was ceded back to Virginia in 1846 and that section known as Northern Virginia has skewed the wishes and the votes of Virginia, especially of late, much to the consternation of the rest of the state.

What is being tried now is having Congress just make the district a state. Proponents say that the district is not too small and that its population is actually bigger than Wyoming, but the citizens of Wyoming are not all employed or beholding to a monolithic employer such as the United States government and its ever growing bureaucracy of liberals. Conservatives also contend, and this is very important, if the power of Congress to "exercise exclusive legislation" over the District is used to supersede other sections of the Constitution, then the powers granted to the Congress could potentially be unlimited, but Barack Obama, a Senate co-sponsor of the "District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2007" (H.R. 1433), said, during his presidential campaign, that he would sign such a bill if it was passed by the Congress while he was President.

The bottom line is that Obama and his liberal masters in Congress want to make the Democrat Party the permanent Party of the federal government. They will shred the Constitution, ignore history and bend or break laws with impunity to become that Party. Just look at the blatant power snatch using the Census and making it answerable to the White House.

As the always estimatible Eleanor Norton Holmes said, "Our people can virtually taste this vote."

God: End Is Nigh. Clinton: Need More Money To Fight Back

In looking back to Hillary's Dukakis debate debacle to clarify a point on Hillary's pointlessness, I saw the obvious. The type of obvious that sometimes slips by one because they are so used to seeing it.

Below is what most people have reported on which is Hillary's answers that seem to be bereft of any questions. That Hillary is scripted seems to be obvious. That she is badly scripted is more obvious.

Campaign call reveals Clinton debate concern
In a memo from the Obama campaign, spokesman Bill Burton said Clinton
“offered more of the same Washington political calculation and evasion that
won’t bring the change America needs.”

“The ‘politics of hope’ doesn’t mean hoping you don’t have to answer
tough questions,” Burton wrote.

Burton wrote that Clinton dodged questions on Social Security, Iran and
the National Archives issue. And on one of the more talked-about moments from
the end of the debate, Clinton’s position on a move by New York Gov. Eliot
Spitzer (D) to grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, Burton said, “Twelve
hours after the debate ended, the American people are still waiting for an
answer on Sen. Clinton’s position … She didn’t answer the question in the debate
and her campaign couldn’t answer it afterwards.”

What I glossed over was:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) top advisers, doing damage
control after the candidate’s debate performance Tuesday, told supporters on a
conference call Wednesday that the campaign needed more money to fight
back.

Huh, "more money to fight back"? Hillary's campaign, at a bazillion dollars raised, needs more money? How much mascara and other men's wives must Warren Beatty fore go to make sure this "seasoned" politico has enough money to be elected president of the free world? On the bright side, Hillary and team can't raise taxes to fund her campaign. If she could, we'd probably be looking at a 90% rate across the socioeconomic board, but it would be for the good of the people which makes it palatable. To Hillary.

Voters are to believe that Hillary has put together the best campaign staff since the plumbers fixed watergate. But:

Mark Penn, Clinton’s senior strategist and pollster, and Jonathan Mantz, the
campaign’s finance director, told the supporters on the call, which The Hill
listened to in its entirety, that they expect attacks from Clinton’s rivals to
continue, and she will need the financial resources to deflect their
attacks.

Mark Penn and staff are just now picking up on the fact that Hillary's opponents might attack her again? This is the crackerjack team, the best that money can buy, but not quite enough money is had, that is going to get her elected? Why not rent Dukakis' tank (and helmet) to just blast her opponents out of the water? It worked for Mikey didn't it and Mikey will try anything.

Money. Will the Clintons ever get enough? At least Paris Hilton shamelessly gets and spends money on herself for prurient reasons. Hillary will get or take money from anyone or anyplace to try to buy herself the power and respect she believes she deserves.

It doesn't matter if you are schlepping Egg Fu Young, Hollywood fantasy, birch boards or bullsh*t, you're going to feel a Clinton hand in your pocket. To a Clinton, money solves everything. Money can buy anything. Money is everything because once they have all the money, then, just then, they can begin to do all the good they believe they can. Nannies cost a lot of money.

BTW, that Clinton hand you feel in your pocket has nothing to do with love.

Iran's Gas Riots Are Nixon's Bush's Fault

There was more than just one station destroyed in the violence as the news reports suggested... There were several stations torched.

But......

United States

Gas stations abandoned during the fuel crisis in the winter of 1973-74 were sometimes used for other purposes. This station at Potlatch, Washington, west of Olympia was turned into a religious meeting hall.

The 1973-1974 gas shortages in the US were mostly because OPEC members decided not to ship any petroleum to the US and some western European nations because of our support for Israel during the Yom Kippur War.

I remember some thefts, some fist fights and lotsa swearing, but for what ever reason, I do not remember rioting and gas stations being burned.

As a child I wanted to visit every state before I went over seas. That was before Uncle Sam became my travel agent and before I married.

My favorite states are Ohio (of course) and Virginia.

My least favorite state is where Harry lives, the state of denial.
