It's like something out of a Franz Kafka novel -- a city buys streetcars for $10 million, but has no tracks to run them.

Kafka was a famous Czech writer and the streetcars are in the Czech Republic. The city that bought the streetcars -- with no tracks -- is the District of Columbia.

3 years ago the District of Columbia bought the streetcars. 3 years ago the District of Columbia had no tracks for streetcars and presumably someone in government understood that. Presumably.

D.C. Department of Transportation Director Emeka Moneme tells WTOP the holdup is tracks for the streetcars to run on. They have not been put down, and there is no current timetable for when those tracks will go down.

So, for the last 3 years DC's streetcars have been taken out for periodic spins in the Czech Republic because some genius bought them when they could not be used. That about sums up governance in DC. Oh, and when they do get around to putting in tracks, DC wants ridership to be free.

I've been asking and saying this for a while now and it is very good that conservatives are beginning to ask what they need to do about the success of the far Left's agenda in Washington. Be aware, if you are not, the left has been very successful in transforming America away from our roots and a free nation inhabited by rugged individuals.

The left has made us much more docile. They are being "nice" to those that need help, they say. Bull, they are making the biggest power play in our history. They know it. They hope we don't, but more importantly, they don't give a damn. Win, lose or draw in the upcoming elections, they believe they have won by destroying the greatest experiment of freedom in the history of the world. Yep, that'd be the United States of America.

I think our side is analyzing this all wrong: Today's Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big. For them, winning big now outweighs that. I think they're right.

As Americans focus on the latest outrage executed by Obama and his administration they tend to forget the last outrage they made happen. Just as they planned. Huge auto corporations owned and operated they way the government (and their union lackeys) wants them operated. Banks being threatened and closed for "bad practices" that the government implemented and forced on the banks. States being blackmailed or bribed into submission. Whole industries deemed unworthy by the government are squeezed, battered and closed because they did not fit the government model. Look more closely at what government bureaucracies and Congress has done in the past years, but especially in the last year, and you will see that the United States of America is dissolving before your eyes.

If you are unwilling to do the hard work, welcome to the United Socialist States of America. I kid you not.

Ultimate Guide To The Stupidity Of Government Control

Today is the anniversary of the enactment of prohibition. The government, in all of its glory, set out to save America from itself. Just as today we have the green movement, anti-tobacco zealots and over reaching paternalistic Judas' such as New York Mayor Bloomberg, prohibitionists enacted onerous taxes, fees, programs to indoctrinate the youth and segregationist laws placing saloons and bars away from downtown society. In short, prohibitionists knew better than the joe sixpack of the day much as blue staters today want to lord over red staters and other Americans too "dumb" to know what's good for them.

So, on the anniversary of prohibition we find ourselves facing a different playing field with the election of Senator Scott Brown which leaves today's "prohibitionists" short one vote for their health care reform. The have done to their current targets of prohibition, such as tobacco, the same things they did then to alcohol. They have taxed, regulated and harassed doctors, insurance companies and to the average citizen they have offered government care for the betterment of all.

Just as the society controllers of prohibition failed then, they will fail now. Just as they put millions of Americans out of work then, they will do so now. Just as they created organized crime then, they will obliquely create new crime and new crime syndicates now. Just as then, government is not the answer now.

As with the federally enacted prohibition against the imbibing of alcohol, today's purveyors of mandatory health care cite the need for such legislation as a moral imperative for the health of the nation, the health of industry and business and for the good of society as a whole. Indeed, just as prohibitionists spoke of the dregs of society, the indigent, the immigrant, the negro and the rural ignorant, being helped, today's "reformists" speak in more veiled terms of he disadvantaged, the undocumented, the mentally challenged and those unable to grasp the true needs of a modern day society. Prohibitionists thumped Bibles for the cause and marched and swung axes in pursuit of propriety. Today's reformers thump political tracts and 'white papers" of reported gravitas, march and swing government promises and money in pursuit of a just society.

The people are awakening, just as they did to the unintended consequences of prohibition, to what this massive government takeover of health care will mean to their lives. People have historically trusted politicians in this country and that trust was and now is being betrayed by politicians. These politicians believe they are smarter than those they represent and as is usually the case, politicians are quite surprised when a wake up call points out just how stupidly they have been acting.

Scott Brown is the de jour wake up call.

Government bailouts mean government control. In a move backed by the White House's Auto Task Force, 789 Chrysler dealerships will be shut down.

Dealers received termination letters Thursday morning."What we didn't sign up for is having the government come out and say, `Hey, we're going to cut 2,500 GM dealers and 800 Chrysler dealers because we think ultimately it's going to make those companies more successful,'" said Peter Kitzmiller, president of the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association.

He says shutting down local dealerships won't work.

Unfortunately, Mr. Kitzmiller is wrong about his conclusion and wrong about why the dealerships are being closed against the will of the owners and their workers. This is part of Obama's overall plan with a strategy of making problems so bad that only the government can fix them and, of course, own part or all of the business which will only sell government approved products.

The Democratic Party is now the Socialist Party of America. I hope that loyal Democrats are totally and completely ashamed. When will the citizenry turn on the party and the administration? Hopefully soon.

Friends called the paper "The Washington Compost" and similar derogatory names. Others said they used it to line their birdcage even when they didn't own a bird. Me? I didn't miss ignoring it. The Post has never been worth the effort to read.
