My vote in the primary would have to go for Edwards. That is since Kucinich's thing isn't going anywhere.

Why?

Edwards know the quality of a good haircut, but hasn't a clue about any cost/benefits idea as long as it looks pretty. That, my dear people, just screams Congress and big government bureaucracy. What a pretty ménage à trois.

Edwards is a fast learner. In just a few years he has made Kerry's flip-flopping look small and using that cost/benefit thingy, Edwards has gold plated his flip-flops which makes them look prettier.

Edwards knows economics better than us. He blackmailed large corporations into paying his clients huge sums of money, got his beak wet channeling dead children for a part of the payoff and then invested it in off shore hedge funds which invested it in pirate loot making even more money. That is really understanding how an economy works!

Edwards understands the issue of poverty. For $55,000 he'll clue you in.

Edwards understands family values. Between the pools and the basketball court he has been able to grasp the real meaning of hearth and home. The indoor pool was just the right temperature. Edwards is modest enough not to reveal whether his grasp was grasped at the DC mansion or the one in NC.

Edwards has a fair tax plan for both Americas. He also has one for himself in the Cayman Islands with his pirate loot. To him that is fair.

Edwards will defend America best. To pay tribute to America's fallen soldiers he advises people to make signs with “SUPPORT THE TROOPS - END THE WAR” and display them along local parade routes for veterans. Oh, and take lots of digital pictures so he can display them on his website.

This is just a short list of why I support Edwards, Democrat, for President. He is our regular Joe Democrat. Just like his regular Joe Democrat peers in Congress, he's wealthy, a partisan hack, a flip-flopper extraordinaire, is better than us, knows more than us and is just pompous enough to explain our ineptness at understanding the American Dream.

If only Kucinich had had the foresight to screw people for his way to wealth, he now could rent Edwards as his Mini-Me, but, ah, there is still hope for an Edwards Kucinich ticket. I feel vapors coming on.

December 17, 2006 Jimmy Carter has written a dreadful book about Palestine and
turned himself into the next thing to a shill for terrorists.

2008, Republican Backbone & Third Party Stupidity

This article from Riehl World View says better than I what I have felt for many years now, except for the third party idea that pops up when conservatives are feeling especially aggrieved.

Third party slates hurt Republicans (especially Conservatives) every single time. Do the history, do the math and it will tell you we get screwed. I am still hoping someday to run into Perot so I can look down on his pointy little head and ask him how his chart schtick is working for him now. "Ross for Boss", know what I mean?

The current immigration bill is just the symptom of the disease in the Republican Party. The disease is political deafness by party leaders and the esconsed politicians in their comfy seats in the clouds. The party cannot listen to their base anymore because they do not know who, what, or where their base is. That is how out of touch they are. The "Got a suburb? Send the direct mail, the TV, radio and door-to-door workers there and, viola, we win" advice that consultant/party "experts" have been handing out is wasting not just money, but hearts and minds. Oh, and elections.

A Republican Landslide In The Making
Historically, the term landslide has meant a major victory by one political party over another. Republicans appear to want to re-define the term by embracing a position on immigration likely to cause the conservative land they've been trampling over for decades to give way.

Some have convinced themselves that the measure represents a good trade, i.e. amnesty for 12 million (which they privately acknowledge is the case) in exchange for beefed -up enforcement including a worker-verification system (assuming government can effectively design one with Democrats refusing to agree to data-sharing among relevant agencies), and an end to chain migration at some point in the future, i.e. when the big backlog on extended family members waiting for green cards is cleared up.

In the face of what became the Reagan compromise on immigration in the eighties, a compromise which produced nothing at all as regards managing immigration or the border, why some insist on trying to put a positive spin on this boggles the mind. All I can guess is that they've given up on any chance for serious change and are all too happy to go along for a ride that looks more like a death spiral for Republicans to
me.

Republicans were given a wake up call in 2006; they've opted to hit snooze. Were this truly a fringe issue, I'd likely accept any alleged wisdom in the move. But I don't believe it is a fringe issue. The majority of Americans appreciate a respect for law and order and want our borders controlled. The winning strategy debated too much too long ago, was, border security first and then a potential accommodation for existent illegals. That would ensure getting action from Washington on this issue for a change.

Republicans appear to have rejected that wisdom, opting for an ineffective compromise, instead. Fine. Let the Republicans tout their ineffectiveness in some next election. I'll be looking for a slate of third party candidates willing to do
what it takes to get a handle on the genuine problems facing America. Clearly
that isn't something the current Republican Party is willing to do.

Despite their '06 rejection, they're content to give us more of the same. Unfortunately, that isn't even close to what America needs. Is this
what McCain touted in the recent debate? No wonder his candidacy has been DOA.

Immigration reform doesn't just mean 12 million new votes for the Demos, it probably means 12 points leaving, or at least not caring anymore for, the GOP.

By showing some Conservative/Republican backbone starting now, even with another loss in 2008, the GOP could be well on its way to rebuilding trust with the people which will translate into victory down the road.

Just maybe, by immediately renting a pair and showing some backbone, the GOP could win in 2008. If it doesn't start with immigration we can plan on Alec Baldwin threatening to move back to America in 2008 and a Democrat in the White House.

I must admit that I am stunned that Republicans would vote for this, even given their history of misreading campaign issues, but I am also stunned that all Americans are not up in arms over this illegal, immoral and destructive action against our country.

The Lies About Rev. Jerry Falwell

I took a few days to digest the news. Actually, I ended up taking a few days to digest the hate.

There has been and will be written massive amounts of things about Rev. Fawell's life. Most of it is crap. There is no need to recap.

I knew Rev. Fawell briefly in the mid-eighties. I was working on campaigns through out the south eastern region of the US where Democrats had reigned supreme since before I had been born. Much like today's blue staters, the then still alive Rockefeller Republican Party looked down on southerners as ignorant, backward and not to be listened to as people. We conservatives who had worked our way up the Republican Party ranks thought differently.

My boss and others on the team took our candidates and message into the community, churches included, even funeral parlors which I learned had held considerable sway for Democrats for years. A meeting had been set up with Rev. Fawell. I was chosen to go. I still believe I was chosen because everybody on the team thought it quite a humorous picture envisioning me with a cigarette in one hand, a scotch in the other swapping dirty jokes with the Rev. I was none the less flattered.

I have never been treated with such respect.

Here I went, an Ohioan in Virginia to talk about the southern strategy. The Reverend, his staff and I were to meet for approximately 45 minutes. We met for three hours. There was a political axiom that when promised 100 volunteers, plan on ten showing up. I was promised a hundred and got 500, all of whom were ready to work and they worked over time for months growing to thousands.

I spoke with the Reverend periodically and he asked pertinent questions, offered more help and advice and soon started teaching me. He taught me about people. He taught me about rural America. For once, I actually listened to the teacher.

Against all of the then current perceptions, we, as Republicans, won the south for the first time since reconstruction. As a team, we hooted and hollered and finally sat back exhausted. Yes, I had a cigarette in one hand and a very stiff scotch in the other. As I remember it was a long night.

After the election I saw Reverend Falwell a few times and each time he was gracious in his congratulations of work well done and remembered to ask about friends, family and goals I didn't remember mentioning. He not once took an ounce of credit for the elections he won for our team. He once did ask me if I had found the courage to quit smoking and drinking.

To you Reverend Falwell, I say thank you for entering my life and though you may not fully approve, last night in the quiet I raised a glass to you as I had the final smoke of the evening.

This poor sinner misses you.

Regularizing Illegal Aliens? Huh?

Republicans, still searching for the fastest way to continually shrink their base, are part of a Ted Kennedy plan to legalize illegals. That is to say retroactively make a crime not a crime. Think what this could do for the illegal drug trade.

Along with a border crackdown, Bush himself has advocated regularizing a large part of the illegal immigrants living in the United States. Anti-immigration politicians accused him of supporting amnesty for all illegal immigrants.

I fully understand the Democrats willing to fore go national security and sovereignty, they need to increase their voter base, especially since the dead aren't voting like they used to, but Republicans voting for this crap?

I've had enough of compassionate conservatism. Vote the law, enforce the law, including guarding the borders, enforcing immigration laws and acting like Republicans. Not losers Liberals.

I guess "regularizing" illegals is the new way of softening the illegality of legalizing illegals. No matter, it still won't help republicans that vote Liberal.

Classic. Illogically so, but is it legal to illegalize the illegal? What? Huh?
