The Dems have been going for this for years. When they control the economy, they increase the size of government which increases their power. It's time to go after them.
Congress = OPEC?
President Bush understands this shift.
"We can help alleviate shortages by drilling for oil and gas in our own country, something I've been advocating ever since I've been the president," he said Wednesday. "I've been reminding our people that we can do so in environmentally friendly ways. And yet the Congress, the Democratically controlled Congress, now has refused to budge. It makes no sense."
He's dead right. In fact, Democrats in Congress for nearly two decades have rejected drilling for more oil, building more refineries or developing more nuclear power. Since 1990, there have been 46 attempts to boost America's energy supplies. Only Democratic opposition keeps us from having more.
Alaska's National Wildlife Reserve, for instance, holds 10 billion barrels of oil, enough for 1.5 million barrels of oil a day. That would be a 20% increase in current U.S. oil production. Slam dunk, right?
No. President Clinton refused to OK development of ANWR back in 1995. When President Bush brought it up again in 2002, he couldn't get Democrats to support it. So no oil.
Likewise, Democrats have refused to drill for our Outer Continental Shelf oil resources, an estimated 89 billion barrels of crude. Nor do they want to disturb the 1 trillion barrels of oil locked underground in shale deposits stretching across the Rocky Mountains.
It isn't just Congress. In his bid to win the presidency, Barack Obama has flip-flopped on many things, but he stands squarely with Congress' naysaying Democrats in rejecting more drilling.
Democrats have failed to live up to their promises, and now we hope the American people hold them accountable.
It was January 2007 that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made her now-infamous "Energy Independence Day" pledge. In it, she vowed to "truly declare our energy independence" by July 4, 2007.
Yet here it is a year later, and, as the Business & Media Institute notes, the price of gasoline has skyrocketed 85% to $4.09 a gallon.
You start to understand that this has been the intent all along. Democrats hate the very stuff — oil — that makes our economy and way of life possible. By doing nothing, they know prices will soar.
Just like Saudi King Abdullah, OPEC's de facto leader, who this week said Americans must "adapt to" high oil prices, Democrats want you to embrace higher prices — and lower standards of living.
That's why Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can call coal and oil a "sickness." He actually believes it, and thinks your suffering from higher prices is therefore noble. It purges the disease — oil.
Americans today face spiraling costs for food and gasoline thanks to the Democrats' ideological nearsightedness. Higher energy costs are feeding into higher prices for everything, especially food.
Americans have to let politicians know they can't get away with ruining our economy, and that Congress' inaction is intolerable.
If you'd like more energy to fuel our economy and lower prices, we have a suggestion: Call your congressperson and tell him or her you want more energy — or you might vote for someone else. It might be the best expenditure of energy you make this year.

Reflection Of A Black Republican
Racism does exist in America. It isn't what we have been led to believe, but it exists.

When I was a Democrat, I never paid much attention to the negativity hurled at black Republicans. That’s probably because I never bought into the habit of gossiping about people or calling them names.
My main focus had always been about people’s deeds – whether positive or negative. I judged people by what they did, not by whom they were.
So it came as a culture shock when I switched to the Republican Party – mainly because of how other people began to treat me.
Here I was the same person, but with a different political perspective brought on by what I saw as hypocrisy in the way the black community was treated by the Democratic Party.
No longer was I “one of us.” I was now “one of them.” And then I saw the reality of viciousness. I even wrote a poem titled, “Why Do You Call Me Names?” published in 2000.
Read the rest. It is an echo of what I have heard for years. Many friends will not openly be Republican, in fact, they avoid the subject of politics completely, because they don't need the grief. A black being Republican is more afield to a Democrat than believing that Israel has a right to exist.
Talk about being disenfranchised.

Anarchist groups with ominous names -- the RNC Welcoming Committee, Unconventional Action -- have announced a "three-tier strategy" to cut off the Xcel Center. The steps include "blockading" streets and freeways, "immobilizing" delegates' transportation and "blocking" bridges to impede delegates' access to the center.
The plan also features a "swarm, seize, stay" strategy. After dividing the city into "sectors," protesters propose to "seize space" through both "hard technical blockades" and "softer, more mobile blockades" such as congestion, according to anarchist websites.

Hillary Has A Fink
As I remember it, Larry Fink was raised in Hell's Kitchen in NYC. He appeared carrying a dufflebag which he tossed on the cement floor and started to talk, as he'd been hired, about his happy complacency of being a traveling photographer much like a one man band of Gypsy around America. As he spoke he bent and reached into his duffel bag to grab his Rolleis and Blads (Rolleiflex and Hasselblad cameras)and various lens rattling around in there. Students in the basement room of an old post office, now an art hall, silently pondered treating their equipment in such a way that would bring immediate cardiac arrest to their purchasers, their parents.
It was a measured performance, so haphazard and slovenly that I knew it had been rehearsed. I liked Fink immediately and invited him over for dinner with my girlfriend. That was planned too.
After a dinner of lemon chicken with Italian breading sauteed in olive oil, pasta in cream sauce, radicchio salad and garlic bread mixed with conversation about the Midwest, NYC and life on the road, Fink commented the meal was better than his earlier dinner at the Hamburger Inn.
Knowing that I was about to start an photography internship in the fashion industry in NYC, Fink spoke of the fraud called fashion, the humourless pomposity of New York's elite and what life really was, as seen from Hell's Kitchen.

years later, I knew I couldn't continue starting my 5:30 AM days as an apprentice assisting in photographing the Rolling Stones, Catherine Deneuve, Cristina Ferrare, Vogue covers and ethereal lanterns floating in a sea of color while bouncing from Peter Beard's studio and Richard Avedon shoots. The imagery of a world in which the Ramones' unloaded their equipment from a cab in front of CBGB, whores on Latrobe, bums in Washington Square and young socialites discussing the impotence of life as they consumed their father's credit at 4 o'clock in the morning at Plato's was my undoing.
I was trapped in Fink's world and my money had run out. I went straight to LaGuardia from a late night performance by Deborah Harry and a debauched party in a loft off Houston Street to a 6:30 AM flight back to Ohio.
In searching for a story about Hillary Clinton's disastrous campaign I found Larry Fink again.
He is still dissecting facades.

On average, women working in Obama's Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator. That's according to data calculated from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007. Of the five people in Obama's Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one -- Obama's administrative manager -- was a woman.
The average pay for the 33 men on Obama's staff (who earned more than $23,000, the lowest annual salary paid for non-intern employees) was $59,207. The average pay for the 31 women on Obama's staff who earned more than $23,000 per year was $48,729.91. (The average pay for all 36 male employees on Obama's staff was $55,962; and the average pay for all 31 female employees was $48,729. The report indicated that Obama had only one paid intern during the period, who was a male.)
McCain, an Arizona senator, employed a total of 69 people during the reporting period ending in the fall of 2007, but 23 of them were interns. Of his non-intern employees, 30 were women and 16 were men. After excluding interns, the average pay for the 30 women on McCain's staff was $59,104.51. The 16 non-intern males in McCain's office, by comparison, were paid an average of $56,628.83.

Winning In '08 Or Losing In '08
I like to read Weapons of Mass Discussion. It is a fun, but always informative site. Matt delivers the type of knowledge and activism that makes our system work and win elections. I emailed Matt after his piece about Lori Viars because I know Lori, like Lori and respect Lori. Matt answered me in a forthright and open reply that I disagree with, but that is our system.
Disagreement should not be disagreeable among friends, allies and peers. Disagreement makes us stronger. Disagreeable makes us the minority.
Many conservative/moderate Republicans work together to enlarge our reach and the good of the people and our country enduring disagreement without being disagreeable. At the "Ford" convention I disagreed with many and chose to whole heartily support and work for Ronald Reagan, but those on both sides chose to be disagreeable.
I wasn't trying to be contrary though I came by it honestly. My father, as a Goldwater delegate, took me to my first convention in '64 and had to explain his "traitorous" behavior for shouting, "That's the sonuvab*tch we should run" after Reagan's speech. That we shortly after the convention met with Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms (then Democrats) and Fulton Lewis, Jr only further confused my young mind.
It was my father's death in 1967 that caused me to reflect and try to understand those events and my father's place in them. The incredible number of people who attended his funeral and personally wrote to me after to explain their disagreement, but also their admiration for his passion and devotion to his beliefs helped explain a contrarian's place in the workforce of American ideals.
As I said before, I know Lori Viars, I like Lori Viars and I respect Lori Viars. A few weeks ago Lori and I discussed the very subject of Matt's post and I know she has intellectually and as a matter of faith struggled with the depth of her involvement in a McCain campaign. I have tried to consistently urge that we all work toward a McCain victory because the option is really no option.
I will never worry about Lori Viars because I have broken bread with her (actually broken fortune cookies) and Lori has watched my back as others attacked me for personal reasons in a political situation. Lori is one of the most consistent, honest and hardest working people I have come to know in Ohio politics.
This is not an attack on Matt. He is, as well, in the trenches doing important work. This is a defense of a great person and it is a defense of our conservative strength; unity and teamwork once the decision to move forward has been made. This is a defense of disagreemnt, but not of disagreeable behavior.

Frankenmuth Michigan Wrong, Non-Frankenmuth Right
Communities and societies work because of shared values. Seldom, if ever, is moral relativism a part of that success. In fact, it is here in America the shared values of the Christian work ethic, respect and adherence to the law that our founding fathers codified into a form of government is what has made American society strong and prosperous. That was then.
During a time of economic trouble post WWI and leading up to WWII an almost perfect storm of anarchy, socialism and communism formed attempting to rend societies into an anger that fomented anti-society movements and revolution. It was never the people or for the people. It was for individual power of the players using "the good of the people" as their mantra to destroy societies and rebuild a structure that made people "equal."
I have never thought FDR was a strong man or leader, rather an opportunist reacting to forces foisted upon him as the leader of America. To placate destructive forces within our country he shaped policies he never intended to last, but didn't have the guts to say so, he allowed mouthpieces of anti-American movements to publicly spout their rot as cheerleaders for his policies, thus giving them credence and established a bureaucracy filled with neer-do-well know nothings that made government king and the citizenry vassals.
It was a movement of the fewer to force tragic and consequentially destructive ends onto the greater population that just wanted to live as American society had become accustomed to. Freedom was and is a powerful force, but at the time survival was acceptable. FDR was America's Trotsky who lost out to his bureaucracy of Lenins that promised bread and equality to the masses under the mantel of a socialized good government in return for the abandonment of their hopes, dreams, aspirations and America as they knew it.
Big government programs corrupted society at-large and little societies nesting within the whole all across America. Big government pushed and forced its "new" programs on communities not moving on their own, destroying inner-cities, farming communities and even our burgeoning arts movement. Harlem, as an example, went from a vibrant community to a ghetto, families held together by shared community values were torn apart by our new moral relativism, crime spiraled "out of control" and class rose to the forefront as the new American model of stagnation. The America where any person could be president started to disappear. The America where a poor, not very well educated, person could rise to be an industrial giant started to die, The America within which dreams were made of got lost in the darkly lit halls of bureaucrats shuffling papers that "guaranteed" what the new politicians promised.
We still live in the remnants of this movement and we still suffer from it. As bureaucrats tore down inner-cities, evidence of their failure, in the name of an urban renewal that was to bring us a new and better society, that society became ensconced in a Kafkaesque-like nightmare of broken families, crime, drugs and guaranteed poverty. But it was society at large that was at fault, white society. As bureaucrats then stepped in to help these new broken societies further we, as a nation, watched the poor produce no families, just babies born into a world of absent fathers, welfare and no responsibility.
Churches, such as the Unitarian Church, grew in numbers filled with the dispassionate and the disassociated, not worshiping a God, but the god of socialital changing movement and revolution, led by their messiah, big government. When this movement attacked communities with marches, legislation and ridicule, violence occurred, but it was not the movement's fault, but the redneck crackers who were too stupid to understand what was right and good for them.
The arts, including entertainment, disallowed the embodiment of vision and a lifting to a higher plane, instead replacing it with modern art, revolutionary imagery and propaganda such as King Vidor's pathetic paeans to socialistic values.
Centuries of learning was tossed from our schools and universities because they were bourgeois
and were replaced by new modality of societal action figures, base lessons of socialital behavior and teachings of mediocrity taught by mediocre intellects. The shared history of what worked in our society was replaced by a modality of new beliefs allowing for individual non responsibility for self exploration.
In short, the laws of man, the 10 commandments, the Torah and the other underpinnings of our society were reduced to one: The hell with it, do what you want because big government is here to save you. The "new person", such as a Lloyd Clarke, wants the benefits and lifestyle of a Frankenmuth, but doesn't want to have to participate in and work for what makes those Frankenmuth work. His ideas, formed as part of groups, parties and societies that do not work, will not make Frankenmuth a better place, they will, in fact, destroy what makes Frankenmuth work, but Lloyd Clarke knows what is right and better and he will tear down Frankenmuth to make it a better and right place. He is a lonely drummer marching to a beat that nobody in Frankenmuth wants to march to.
Frankenmuth survived before Lloyd Clarke arrived and Frankenmuth will survive long after Lloyd Clarke is gone if only they continue to fight for their rights.

During a time of economic trouble post WWI and leading up to WWII an almost perfect storm of anarchy, socialism and communism formed attempting to rend societies into an anger that fomented anti-society movements and revolution. It was never the people or for the people. It was for individual power of the players using "the good of the people" as their mantra to destroy societies and rebuild a structure that made people "equal."
I have never thought FDR was a strong man or leader, rather an opportunist reacting to forces foisted upon him as the leader of America. To placate destructive forces within our country he shaped policies he never intended to last, but didn't have the guts to say so, he allowed mouthpieces of anti-American movements to publicly spout their rot as cheerleaders for his policies, thus giving them credence and established a bureaucracy filled with neer-do-well know nothings that made government king and the citizenry vassals.
It was a movement of the fewer to force tragic and consequentially destructive ends onto the greater population that just wanted to live as American society had become accustomed to. Freedom was and is a powerful force, but at the time survival was acceptable. FDR was America's Trotsky who lost out to his bureaucracy of Lenins that promised bread and equality to the masses under the mantel of a socialized good government in return for the abandonment of their hopes, dreams, aspirations and America as they knew it.
Big government programs corrupted society at-large and little societies nesting within the whole all across America. Big government pushed and forced its "new" programs on communities not moving on their own, destroying inner-cities, farming communities and even our burgeoning arts movement. Harlem, as an example, went from a vibrant community to a ghetto, families held together by shared community values were torn apart by our new moral relativism, crime spiraled "out of control" and class rose to the forefront as the new American model of stagnation. The America where any person could be president started to disappear. The America where a poor, not very well educated, person could rise to be an industrial giant started to die, The America within which dreams were made of got lost in the darkly lit halls of bureaucrats shuffling papers that "guaranteed" what the new politicians promised.
We still live in the remnants of this movement and we still suffer from it. As bureaucrats tore down inner-cities, evidence of their failure, in the name of an urban renewal that was to bring us a new and better society, that society became ensconced in a Kafkaesque-like nightmare of broken families, crime, drugs and guaranteed poverty. But it was society at large that was at fault, white society. As bureaucrats then stepped in to help these new broken societies further we, as a nation, watched the poor produce no families, just babies born into a world of absent fathers, welfare and no responsibility.
Churches, such as the Unitarian Church, grew in numbers filled with the dispassionate and the disassociated, not worshiping a God, but the god of socialital changing movement and revolution, led by their messiah, big government. When this movement attacked communities with marches, legislation and ridicule, violence occurred, but it was not the movement's fault, but the redneck crackers who were too stupid to understand what was right and good for them.
The arts, including entertainment, disallowed the embodiment of vision and a lifting to a higher plane, instead replacing it with modern art, revolutionary imagery and propaganda such as King Vidor's pathetic paeans to socialistic values.
Centuries of learning was tossed from our schools and universities because they were bourgeois
and were replaced by new modality of societal action figures, base lessons of socialital behavior and teachings of mediocrity taught by mediocre intellects. The shared history of what worked in our society was replaced by a modality of new beliefs allowing for individual non responsibility for self exploration.
In short, the laws of man, the 10 commandments, the Torah and the other underpinnings of our society were reduced to one: The hell with it, do what you want because big government is here to save you.
