NEW YORK (AP) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is mentioned as a possible
2008 independent candidate for the White House, said Friday that the
presidential primary schedule is flawed and suggested the federal government
should take over and change it.

We can thank the US speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, for having
informed Syrian President Bashar Assad, from Beirut, that "the road to solving
Lebanon's problems passes through Damascus." Now, of course, all we need to do
is remind Pelosi that the spirit and letter of successive United Nations
Security Council resolutions, as well as Saudi and Egyptian efforts in recent
weeks, have been destined to ensure precisely the opposite: that Syria end its
meddling in Lebanese affairs.
Pelosi embarked on a fool's errand to Damascus
this week, and among the issues she said she would raise with Assad - when she
wasn't on the Lady Hester Stanhope tour in the capital of imprisoned dissidents
Aref Dalila, Michel Kilo, and Anwar Bunni - is "the role of Syria in supporting
Hamas and Hizbullah." What the speaker doesn't seem to have realized is that if
Syria is made an obligatory passage in American efforts to address the Lebanese
crisis, then Hizbullah will only gain. Once Assad is re-anointed gatekeeper in
Lebanon, he will have no incentive to concede anything, least of all to
dilettantes like Pelosi, on an organization that would be Syria's enforcer in
Beirut if it could re-impose its hegemony over its smaller neighbor.

Nancy Pelosi's foolish shuttle diplomacy
"We came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a
road to peace," Ms. Pelosi grandly declared.Never mind that that statement is ludicrous: As any diplomat with knowledge of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug whose overriding priority at the moment is not peace with Israel but heading off U.N. charges that he orchestrated the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri. The really striking development here is the attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign policy for that of a sitting Republican president. Two weeks ago Ms. Pelosi rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr. Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that directly conflicts with that of the president. We have found much to criticize in Mr. Bush's military strategy and regional diplomacy. But Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.

Pelosi wearing it. The damage Speaker Pelosi is causing with her visit to Syria
will be felt for many years to come.

months ago: “We’re not going to do anything to limit funding or cut off funds,”
he said then. And a White House spokeswoman lamented the “shifting sands” among Democrats over the war spending measure.It’s clear Reid’s trying to send a message. But at the moment the troops are the ones getting sand kicked in their faces.

Ridicules Senators in Iraq.Louisiana Fifth-Graders Fondle, Have Sex In Class
(AP) SPEARSVILLE, La. Two fifth-graders had sex on a classroom floor while two others fondled each other in the classroom, according to a teacher at Spearsville High School in Louisiana.
Union Parish Superintendent Judy Mabry would say only that the allegations were being investigated; Principal Frank Futch said the incident was not indicative of how the school is run.
First-year teacher Michael Walker, who teaches fifth- through eighth-grade English, said three students were either expelled or sent to an alternative school and two others got detention.
Students at the kindergarten through 12th grade school are unruly, disrespectful and rarely disciplined, Walker said."They cuss at the teachers and throw things at them, and nothing is done," Walker said. "There was even one student who grabbed a teacher in the butt and nothing was done. The students run the school."
Walker said teachers learned Wednesday about the incident, which allegedly occurred during an assembly Tuesday to talk about a 15-year-old student accused of stabbing another student to death over the weekend.
The assembly was for sixth- through 12th-grade students. Fifth-grade
students were not told about it, he said. But one class of about 15 fifth-grade
students that routinely moves from a portable building to a main building
classroom during the second hour of the school day was unattended on
Tuesday."The teacher thought it was a normal day and sent the kids to second
hour," he said. "She didn't know the teacher that would normally be in there was
still at the assembly."The students were alone for about 30 minutes.
Teachers began to hear rumors around school Wednesday and by the end of the school day, the students involved had confessed.
School officials notified the Union Parish Sheriff's Office on Thursday morning and detectives questioned students.
"This is one incident and everyone is making a big deal out of it," Futch said. "I never had a teacher complain to me, but I have heard them complain to each
other."Sheriff Bob Buckley said charges are likely. "I have zero tolerance for
drugs, violence or anything like that that goes on in school," he said.

HOUSE # 2: Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national
university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home
construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4
bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A
central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water
through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees
F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no
fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity
required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the
roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern.
Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land
surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the
property into the surrounding rural landscape.

On 7-7-07, people will meet in the every states capital for fun, music, and speeches. The American soldier will see their country behind them again. Proud Americans will show their love and appreciation and media coverage will be everywhere. Instead of being a pot filled, bongo drum beating anti this and anti that rally, this will be a pro troop and proud gathering of Americans who support our soldiers that are fighting for our freedom all over the world.

FOUR MAJOR TRANSFORMATIONS
Currently, there are four major transformations that are shaping political, economic and world events. These transformations have profound implications for American business owners, our culture and our way of life.
1. The War in Iraq
There are three major monotheistic religions in the world: Christianity, Judaism and Islam. In the 16th century, Judaism and Christianity reconciled with the modern world. The rabbis, priests and scholars found a way to settle up and pave
the way forward. Religion remained at the center of life, church and state
became separate. Rule of law, idea of economic liberty, all these are
defining points of modern Western civilization. These concepts started
with the Greeks but didn't take off until the 15th and 16th century when Judaism
and Christianity found a way to reconcile with the modern world. When that
happened, it unleashed the scientific revolution and the greatest outpouring of
art, literature and music the world has ever known.Islam, which developed in the 7th century, counts millions of Moslems around the world who are normal people. However, there is a radical streak within Islam. When the radicals are in charge, Islam attacks Western civilization. Islam first
attacked Western civilization in the 7th century, and later in the 16th and 17th
centuries. By 1683, the Moslems (Turks from the Ottoman Empire) were
literally at the gates of Vienna. It was in Vienna that the climatic
battle between Islam and Western civilization took place. The West won and
went forward. Islam lost and went backward interestingly; the date of that
battle was September 11. Since them, Islam has not found a way to
reconcile with the modern world.Today, terrorism is the third attack on Western civilization by radical Islam. To deal with terrorism, the US is doing two things. First, units of our armed forces are in 30 countries around the world hunting down terrorist groups and dealing with them. This gets very little publicity. Second we are taking military action in Afghanistan and Iraq. These are covered relentlessly by the media. People can
argue about whether the war in Iraq is right or wrong. However, the
underlying strategy behind the war is to use our military to remove the radicals
from power and give the moderates a chance. Our hope is that, over time,
the moderates will find a way to bring Islam forward into the 21st
century. That's what our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan is all about.The lesson of 9/11 is that we live in a world where a small number of people
can kill a large number of people very quickly. They can use airplanes,
bombs, anthrax, chemical weapons or dirty bombs. Even with a first-rate
intelligence service (which the U.S. does not have), you can't stop every
attack. That means our tolerance "for political horseplay" has dropped to
zero. No longer will we play games with terrorists or weapons of mass
destructions.Most of the instability and horseplay is coming from the Middle East. That's why we have thought that if we could knock out the radicals and give the moderates a chance to hold power; they might find a way to reconcile Islam with the modern world. So when looking at Afghanistan or Iraq, it's important to look for any signs that they are modernizing. For example, a woman being brought into the workforce and colleges in Afghanistan is good. The Iraqis stumbling toward a constitution is good. People can argue about what the U.S. is doing and how we're doing it, but anything that suggests Islam is finding its way forward is good.

disaster related to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.NASA: Provides $35 million to NASA, under the "exploration capabilities" account, for "expenses related to the consequences of Hurricane Katrina."
Corps of Engineers: Provides $1.3 billion to Corps of Engineers for continued repairs on the levee system in New Orleans.FEMA: Provides $4.3 billion for disaster relief at the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The bill would eliminate the state and local matching requirements for certain FEMA assistance (in connection with Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma, and Dennis) in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida, and provides that the federal portion of these costs will be
100%.HUD Indian Housing: Provides $80 million in tenant-based rental
assistance for public and Indian housing under HUD.Crop Disaster Assistance: Provides roughly $3 billion in agriculture assistance to crop producers and livestock owners experiencing losses in 2005, 2006, or 2007 due to bad weather.
Spinach: Provides $25 million for payments to spinach producers
that were unable to market spinach crops as a result of the FDA Public Health
Advisory issued on September 14, 2006.Shrimp: Provides $120 million to the shrimp industry for expenses related to the consequences of Hurricane Katrina.
Frozen Farmland: Provides $20 million for the cleanup and restoration of
farmland damaged by freezing temperatures during a time period beginning on
January 1, 2007 through the date of enactment.Milk Income Loss Contract (MILC) Program: Provides $283 million for payments under the MILC program, to extend the life of the program for one year, through September 30, 2008. MILC provides payments to dairy farmers when milk prices fall below a certain rate.
Peanut Storage Subsidies: Provides $74 million to extend
peanut storage payments through 2007. The Peanut Subsidy Storage program, which is set to expire this year, pays farmers for the storage, handling, and other
costs for peanuts voluntarily placed in the marketing loan program.Aquaculture Operations: Provides $5 million for payments to "aquaculture
operations and other persons in the U.S. engaged in the business of breeding,
rearing, or transporting live fish" (such as shellfish, oysters and clams) to
cover economic losses incurred as a result of an emergency order issued by the
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service on October 24, 2006.FDA Office of Women’s Health: Provides $4 million for the Office of Women’s Health at the Food and Drug Administration.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Provides $60.4 million for fishing communities, Indian tribes, individuals, small businesses, including fishermen, fish processors, and related businesses for assistance related to "the commercial fishery failure." According to the Committee Report, this funding is to be used to provide disaster relief for those along the California and Oregon coast affected by the "2006 salmon fishery disaster in the Klamath River."
Avian Flu: Provides $969 million for the Department of HHS to continue to prepare and respond to an avian flu pandemic. Of this funding, $870 million is to be used for the development of vaccines.
Secure Rural Schools Act (Forest County Payments): Provides $400 million to be used for one-time payments to be allocated to states under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000. This program provides a funding stream (known as forest county payments) to counties with large amounts of Bureau of Land Management land, in order to compensate for the loss of receipt-sharing payments on this land caused by decreased revenue from timber sales due to environmental protections for endangered species. The authorization for these forest county payments expired at the end of FY 2006, and counties received their last payment under the Act in December 2006.
LIHEAP: Provides $400 million for the Low-Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP).Vaccine Compensation: Provides $50 million to compensate individuals for injuries caused by the H5N1 vaccine, which is a flu vaccine.
Payment to Widow of Rep. Norwood: Provides $165,200 to Gloria W.
Norwood, the widow of former Rep. Charlie Norwood (R-GA), an RSC Member, who passed away last month. In the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2005 (H.R. 1268), Congress provided $162,100 to Doris Matsui, the widow of former Rep. Robert Matsui.Capitol Power Plant: Provides $50 million to the Capitol Power Plant for asbestos abatement and safety improvements.
Liberia: Provides that money appropriated for FY 2007 for the Bilateral Economic
Assistance program at the Department of Treasury may be used to assist Liberia
in retiring its debt arrearages to the International Monetary Fund, the
International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the African
Development Bank.
SCHIP: Provides $750 million to the Secretary of HHS to provide assistance to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) "shortfall states,", in the form of an amount "as the Secretary determines will eliminate the estimated shortfall." This provision is direct spending that is essentially capped at $750 million and designated as an emergency to avoid PAYGO constraints.Minimum Wage Increase: Increases the federal minimum wage from $5.15-per-hour to $7.25-per-hour over two-plus years—a 41% increase. Yields $16.5 billion in private-sector costs over five years.
Tax Increases and Shifts: Implements several tax increases and shifts,
including: denying the lowest maximum capital gains tax rate for certain minors
and adults, extending the suspension of interest payments due to the IRS, and
adjusting the deadlines for corporate estimated tax payments. Costs taxpayers
$1.380 billion over the FY2007-FY2017 period.

Mike Rogers' Office Vandalized Congressman Mike Rogers' home is under police guard after his Lansing office was severely vandalized last night.
The case is being handled by the FBI and the S Capitol Police, who have requested that the Lansing Police investigate the matter.
According to the Congressman's spokesperson, the office was
extensively damaged.
