One of my heroes, Bill Batchelder, is looking into the debacle called Marc Dann. When and if Bill Batchelder finds what he needs Dann will be looking into a new line of work because Batchelder loves the law and the state of Ohio.
One thing is so certain as to take it to the bank, Bill Batchelder will follow the law. That is a fine testament. One which Dann wouldn't know if it bit him in the butt.
Batchelder examining how to oust AG Dann
During his nearly 40 years in public office, state Rep. William Batchelder often has found himself at the center of major battles.
He helped decide how the Ohio House should respond in the 1970s to campus uprisings and in the '90s to state lawmakers accused of skirting campaign finance and ethics laws.
Now, the Republican from Medina, a constitutional lawyer, has been given the task of researching the process House members would use to impeach Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann.
Dann, a Democrat, admitted Friday to having an extramarital affair with a subordinate, and he fired or accepted resignations from four employees for their part in a sexual-harassment scandal. He apologized but refused to resign.
Gov. Ted Strickland and other Democratic leaders have said the House will try to impeach Dann if he doesn't step down.
Speaker Jon Husted, R-Kettering, asked Batchelder to guide the House on how to follow a process that hasn't been used in nearly 200 years.
''I have selected Rep. Batchelder for this task for several reasons, paramount among them because he is respected by members of both sides of the aisle on matters of great importance,'' Husted said.
