• Abuse of Power? : Another DCCC ad claims Joy Padgett, an Ohio Republican running for Bob Ney's House seat, was investigated "for abusing her position to help her own business." The ad is misleading. It's true that Ohio's Inspector General received a complaint – from somebody requesting anonymity – claiming that Padgett had abused her position as director of the Governor's Office of Appalachia by coercing would-be grant recipients to buy goods from her office supply business. The IG did investigate, but what the ad fails to mention is that the investigation found "no substance to the allegation."

That Inspector General's report also noted in passing that appearances can be deceiving. It said public officials "should be aware that while such appearances may often have no basis in fact, they may be incorrectly assumed as fact by the casual observer." The message to officials is to be careful of how things look. But citizens should be equally careful not to be a "casual observer" of political spots. Examined carefully they often turn out to have "no basis in fact," either.

In an interview from her Capitol office, Pelosi characterized Tuesday's vote as
a referendum on the war, shrugged off President Bush's efforts to make her
liberalism a national issue, described the current GOP leadership as a "freak
show," and expressed confidence about her party's prospects to pick up the 15
seats it needs for a majority.

CONSPIRACY!!!!! Poll workers might cheat – Nancy Pelosi

Pelosi cautioned that the number of Democratic House victories could be higher
or lower and said her greatest concern is over the integrity of the count --
from the reliability of electronic voting machines to her worries that
Republicans will try to manipulate the outcome.

"That is the only variable in this," Pelosi said. "Will we have an honest count?''

Giving it up for Space!

Monday, October 30, 2006 WAIS 770 AM KOOK Radio gave a lesson in media bias. No half measures at this Kook station. On the morning "View Point" call in show, Sharon Elliott, moderator announced she was having a special guest at 9:45 for the last 15 minutes of the hour program. However, Elliott did not identify the guest. The guest turned out to be Zach Space, (D) running for 18th District U.S. House.

Most commercial radio stations with a pending interview with a major political candidate would promote the interview. A simple question is why would Elliott hide the identity of a guest and not promote his appearance. Simple answer is Elliott didn't want people who would challenge Space to call the program.

Once Space appeared he quickly gave a little stump speech then started taking phone calls. The lines were loaded with political friends. Space took three questions that came directly from his web sites talking points, and gave rehearsed answers.

Elliott then quickly stated that she knew Space was busy and had to leave. Elliott then said, "all you people on hold are not going to get to ask questions". Even though there was still nine minutes left in the program.

Elliott routinely belittles Joy Padgett (R), which is the republican candidate for this office. Before ending the program, Elliott said, I was really impressed with the questions the callers had for Zach Space.

I was really impressed with the Dog and Pony show. Dan Rather could take notes!

No surprise here. Zack continues to cut and run. And hide.

Evidently Marc Dann is a sexist. Here's the email I received from Women for Betty:

I urge you to e-mail this message to several of your women friends. Yesterday I
had the opportunity to attend the debate between Betty Montgomery and her
opponent in the race for Attorney General at The City Club in Cleveland. While I
expected an interesting and possibly heated debate, I had no idea I would leave
the City Club feeling completely appalled by Marc Dann’s unbelievable sexist
comments.Marc Dann, running a wholly negative campaign, ran out of ideas and
decided to offend everyone at the debate with an outrageous story. Dann offered
up a piece of fiction in which he found his wife and her friends on chairs,
scared witless by a mouse. He then went on to compare Montgomery to his fat,
lazy cat. He botched the joke, because nobody was laughing.During the Q&A
session, an older gentleman stood to say that he had been highly offended by
Dann’s chauvinistic comments and asked Dann if he intended to bring that same
sexist attitude to the Attorney General’s office if he should be elected. The
gentleman, then asked Dann to clarify his sexist remarks. Dann replied with a
smirk, "I'm only repeating what I saw." The audience, fed up with Marc's
classless remarks, booed candidate Dann as the debate closed.Betty, when asked
by the moderator to respond said, "I am just speechless. All I can say is that I
wouldn't have been on a chair. I'd have been the first to get a broom."

There ya have it. If you honestly think Marc Dann is the right candidate for Attorney General, I am just speechless.

To take the Senate, the Dems would need two of Virginia, Tennessee, and Missouri. Ford looks in trouble in TN; McCaskill and Webb have a fighting chance. But I just don't see both winning.
· Lieberman takes Connecticut and caucuses as a Democrat, nominally, remaining a general sanctimonious pain in the ass for the next six years.
· Menendez hangs on in New Jersey, and Cardin beats Steele in Maryland.

ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is up to its normal.

What do dead people, cartoon figures, the elderly, celebrities, the mentally ill and illegal aliens have in common? Well, they’re all registered voters for liberals.

House Democrats pushed through a bill (not yet considered by the Senate) to have your tax dollars fund ACORN. Pretty neat, eh? Yeah, the Democrats scream corruption to the Plain Dealer, the Dispatch and every local paper that will listen and while the reporters and editors are burning blue with indignation, they never notice that the democrats have legalized corruption to benefit themselves. Eh, neat pretty?

Acorn and its affiliates have pulled some real stunts in recent years. In
Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for
fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars
of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. During a
Congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials
from several counties in the state explained Acorn's practice of dumping
thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even
though the forms had been collected months earlier.

"You have to wonder what's the point of that, if not to overwhelm the
system and get phony registrations on the voter rolls," says Thor Hearne of the
American Center for Voting Rights, who also testified at the hearing. "These
were Democratic officials saying that they felt their election system in Ohio
was under assault by these kinds of efforts to game the system."
Given this
history, it's not surprising that Acorn is so hostile to voter identification
laws and other efforts to ensure fairness and accuracy at the polls. In Missouri
last month, the state Supreme Court held that a photo ID requirement to vote was
overly burdensome and a violation of the state constitution. Acorn was behind
the original suit challenging the statute, and it has brought similar challenges
in several other states, including Ohio.

In Ohio, over 344,000 reasons to check.

More signs of potentially large-scale voter registration fraud in Ohio from the Cleveland
Plain Dealer:
In all, the county elections board has received more than 344,000 registration forms this year - up from 103,000 four years ago - including duplicate cards and voters updating their addresses or other information.

Michael Vu, Cuyahoga County's election director, has encountered some problems with registrations. More than 3,700 forms had mailing addresses that could not be verified or simply don't exist, he said.

A smattering of those also included suspicious signatures written with the last
name first. Those will be turned over to the county prosecutor's office to be
investigated as a possible fraud, Vu said. Ohio, a key battleground state, is
rife with reports of potential voter fraud.

I am confident that Zack Space is not aware nor will he allow his candidacy to benefit from ACORN’s illegal activities. I mean, if he just is looking the other way, isn't that a violation of his already broken "ethics" pledge?

either. I've known quite a few REpublicans in my time and it seems
as though they never take responsibility for their kids, or marriages, etc. Look
at all those on the right who talk about morals but clearly have none of their
own - Bush got women abortions, drank, did drugs, deserted the military, etc.;
Gingrich divorced his ill wife when she needed him most, and so on. Personally,
the R's I know are mostly friends of my mom (who is a Dem). But both of them
have kids who are hopeless and the women "don't know what they can do." Well,
try not supporting them for one thing. I mean, one woman has a daughter who went
to college (mom paid), then went into the military and then got married and had
a kid so left the military. Then she left the kid with mom while she moved and
went into another kind of business. Then she went back to school (mom paid
again) and then quit and is now going to truck driving school because she thinks
it might be "fun." If mom didn't keep enabling her daughter the woman might
actually have to work for a living. This woman is in her 50's by the way (mom is
in her 70's).

Granville is a transplanted New England college town - got its name from the first settlers from Granville, CT. Denison University is there - attracts mostly East coasters and it leans a little toward a party school, but has a solid academic
reputation.
The non-college Granvillians (or villains) are staunchly Republican, and the county (Licking) is all Republican all the time, with many serious attacks against those who express any other opinion other than the party line - missing ballots, creating false charges, sending the shreiff's deputies o harass and threaten - one elderly couple was threatened at gunpoint by a deputy when they protested having their road frontage decimated by a township trustee taking reveng on them for complaining at township trustee meetings.
Padgett's county - Coshocton - is even more rural and filled with unemployed and underemployed locals, who still continue to vote Republican - because of that strawman patriotism and pulpit garbage that's spewed.
The local churches are all evangelical, uneducated, fundamental extremist in their
positions.
Laura was probably viewed as a goddess to that crowd, and I'm sure she scored big money.

an environment that is conducive

to entrprenuership and to provide

the tools and the resources necessary

to grow the economy. For example,

we need to apply rules much like

those of the Telecommunications Act

of 1937, which dealt with the issue of

bringing telephones to rural areas. In

the same way we need to pursue today's

issues of bringing broadband/high-speed

internet and wireless connectivity to our

region of Ohio as they are no longer

choices but necessities for jobs and

economic development. Other solutions

include assistance to small business

startups, venture capital startups,

reducing regulatory burden, and reforming

the legal system so that American

businesses and workers can remain competitive.

Okay, now to education

I've read a book "The World is Flat" by
Thomas Friedman, which is a book
about the global economy and where
American students fit into it. Years of
little accountability within America's
public school system have left students
unprepared to compete in this global
economy, so I support the goals of No
Child Left Behind. Many children in the
United States are seemingly unable to
improve their test scores on state, national,
and international exams. I do believe
that No Child Left Behind needs more
flexibility so that decisions can be made
in the best interest of each individual child.
Although federal funding for elementary
and secondary schools has increased 39%
since 2001, the federal government must
be cautious not to issue "unfunded mandates"
to states and local school districts.

My next question concerns taxes and the economy

I believe tax cuts are working to grow
the economy. When we allow the

entrepreneurial spirit to thrive, freed

of government shackles, tax revenues

increase and the nation prospers.

But Congress must get control of

spending. Too many times, Republicans

have been just as guilty as Democrats

of too much pork spending. We have

to be responsible stewards of taxpayer

dollars.

Cafaro conviction was lost on Space

Zack Space has made ethics a centerpiece of his campaign for the Democratic
party's nomination to run against incumbent GOP congressman Bob Ney of Licking County, whose ties to lobbyist Jack Abramoff are being probed by federal
investigators.

But Zacko invites a Abramoff beneficiary, Jay Inslee, to help him campaign.

Space, who serves as Dover's city law director, held a press conference in
January, where he pledged that he wouldn't be "bought off by lobbyists or
special interests."

Zacko has a cushy job in which he got his own salary raised by a Bazillion % to add to his "shake down" law firm millions.

That didn't keep him from accepting a $2,000 campaign contribution from John J.
Cafaro of Youngstown, who pleaded guilty to illegally giving cash and gifts to
former congressman Jim Traficant and was fined $150,000. When Space's campaign was asked about Cafaro's donation today, a staffer said he'll return it.

"Zack isn't a politician and he didn't really follow all the intricacies of
what Cafaro was involved in," said Space campaign spokesman John Rowley.

The Cafaro family's involvement in the Traficant case has come up repeatedly
in another high-profile Democratic primary race. It has dogged John Cafaro's
daughter, Capri, as she tries to win the Democratic nomination for the 13th
District congressional seat currently held by Sherrod Brown.

Capri Cafaro received immunity from prosecution in exchange for
testimony in federal court, but maintains she did nothing wrong. Her campaign
has hired a lawyer to threaten to sue anyone who incorrectly describes her
immunity deal.The recent publicity about the Cafaro's links to Traficant didn't
register with Space, his campaign says."I don't think he is closely following
any race but his own," Rowley said.

Illegal Immigration Debate

Illegal is illegal! America needs to get
serious about securing our borders. If
we demonstrate that illegals will not
be granted amnesty, and that we are
serious about enforcing our own laws,
there will be less of a desire by illegal
immigrants to unlawfully cross the border.
Individuals do not fear breaking our
immigration laws because they see little
evidence they are being enforced. When
that changes, the tide of illegal immigrants
will be substantially reduced. We are a
nation of laws, and when those laws are
ignored or flaunted, everybody loses. I
support a catch and deport program that
gives local law enforcement the authority
to detain illegal immigrants for breaking
the law, and fully believe that illegal
immigrants should be denied federal
benefits such as Social Security and Medicare.

California Leftists are now a “local” concerned group pimping for Zack Space

While reading a “local” press release about a forum held by Working Families Win concerning Joy Padgett’s position on trade policies, I noticed the word “non-partisan” in reference to the forum’s sponsor – Working Families Win. I wondered just how “non-partisan” WFW was and to my surprise I found that they were not only not non-partisan, but WFW is just a small cog in the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy that stretches across the nation to California (and probably to George Soros’ back pocket).

Even though Zacko wants everyone to believe he is just a humble public servant instead of a lefty business shake down artist. Zacko hides from the media, voters whom he has stated he wishes to serve and, most especially, Zacko hides like a scared child from debating his opponent, Joy Padgett.

Well, now it appears Zacko is more than just your run-of-the-mill millionaire lawyer. Let’s start with the press release about the “local” group WFW I read.

Padgett: No “Joy” for Fair Trade

“Take a look at what Joy Padgett said in a small forum on October 12 with Working Families Win – a non-partisan group focused on the legislative advocacy around fair trade, healthcare, a just minimum wage, organizing rights, and ballot accountability.”

A standard press release with political stands and beliefs put forward. What is also is standard is the main stream media’s blind acceptance of characterizations these groups label themselves with. Non-partisan? Small forum? Local? Who are and where do these “non-partisan locals” come from?

War is upon us.The Bush administration has abandoned diplomacy, shunned international alliances and ignored the largest global demonstrations for peace in history. Meanwhile pressing domestic concerns-such as a flagging economy, a continuing health care crisis and constant assaults on the environment and civil liberties-are either pushed to the side or exacerbated by an aggressive and unchecked administration.
But as bombs drop and the war machines roll, we must not abandon the fight for peace and justice. Organizations working to stop the war and advance peaceful, diplomatic and just alternatives to war need financial support today.

The Tides Center began as a spinoff of the Tides Foundation. What is the Tides Foundation? It is not a private foundation, but is a public charity. It has 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) IRS designations, which allow it to seek contributions and distribute them where desired.
It’s not a traditional foundation. It doesn’t have an endowment. Instead, people and institutions that, for one reason or another, don’t want to be publicly identified with a certain cause give money to Tides as donor-advised funds, a little-known charitable giving vehicle that allows donors to recommend uses of their donations and also to remain anonymous.
Tides becomes the "fiscal agent" (money funnel) of any group that donors wish to fund or to create to fit their agenda. Tides gives the recipient shelter under its tax exemption. OH 18: Padgett plays the prejudice card Joy Padgett the woman that accused
former hostage Terry Anderson as being weak on terrorism has sunk into the
smelly bowels of prejudice this election. Her new ad "she is one of us" seems a
safe enough line, but then in between repeating this line she mentions the
marriage amendment and immigration. Yes Joy we get it, your one of us
means white, non-Hispanic gay hater. I'm half surprised there isn't a
confederate flag or a burning cross somewhere in the commercial.Bad news Joy,
your not one of us, your an unethical, say anything do anything to get elected
joke of a candidate.I say it once again. Joy Padgett is the worse candidate for
congress in Ohio, yes that includes Jean Schmidt. (But she is a close
second.) Zack Space is the clear choice here. Leadership vs. Prejudice. Easy

Issues important, yeah, but not Mt. Vernon and Knox County

Padgett began by saying she wanted to clarify the TV ads. “I was subject to
an ethics investigation, and at the end of seven months the inspector general
found the allegations were baseless and I was cleared 100 percent,” she said.
“So that’s what you can say about those TV ads.”

Padgett said she considers national security one of her highest priorities, and noted there are five issues the people are talking about — health care, the budget,
education, illegal immigration and the war on terror.

“The thing is everybody recognizes what the problems are,” Padgett said. “What we need is someone with solutions, and I believe I’m that person.”

Regarding the budget, Padgett said she believes the tax cuts are working to grow the economy across the nation, although not as well in Ohio as we’d like it to be. She said Ohio absolutely needs to catch up.

“I believe jobs are not created by the government; jobs are created by the private sector, and it’s the government’s responsibility to provide the tools and resources back to communities, back to states in order that they can create jobs locally,” Padgett said. “When we allow the entrepreneurial spirit to thrive free of the government shackles as much as possible, tax revenues increase, the nation prospers, and we’re on our way to that balanced budget,” Padgett said, adding that Congress does need to get control of spending.

As for health care, she said the affordability of health care is only part of the equation, especially in rural areas. Accessibility to health care also has a direct bearing on affordability. In rural areas patients simply cannot access the care they need, which often drives up the cost since patients are forced to seek health care many, many miles away.

McHugh read from a statement written by Zack Space for his opening address. It contained a few points Space had prepared, “because I want you to know where I stand on issues important to our community.”

So important, "our community" is, that Zack sent Tom McHugh to discuss his views. Maybe Zack was counting his million$.
